Buffs got to 3rd in conference, can they do it again?

Man, it feels nice to not deal with Larry Scott (or his legacy!) anymore sometimes. The Colorado Buffaloes’ new home, The Big 12 Conference, appears to understand how to create hype and release a schedule.

The 2025 football schedule was released live on February 4th on Max/Bleacher Report/whatever else it was on. In case you missed that announcement, the full grid for all teams is below:

WHO CARES ABOUT THE 15 OTHER GARBAGE PROGRAMS, GIMME JUST THE BUFFS:

(bold is a conference game)

8/30: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (home)

9/6: Delaware Blue Hens (home)

9/13: @HOUSTON

9/20: Wyoming (home)

9/27: BYU (home)

10/4: @TCU

10/11: Iowa State (home)

10/18: BYE

10/25: @UTAH

11/1: Arizona (home)

11/8: @WVU

11/15: BYE

11/22: ASU (home)

11/29: @KSU

Ok, there’s the schedule. Some initial thoughts:

  • The beginning is a cakewalk compared to last year. NDSU into Nebraska into CSU had emotion and 2 of the 4 best teams CU played all year. This year, no natural rivals and the only scary game is GT at home. GT just lost their DC and a lot of talent. Still scary, but after that? Delaware, @Houston and then Wyoming should all lead to the Buffs being 3-1 AT WORST heading into the BYU game. This also a helpful on-ramp for a team with a new quarterback like CU (who knows if it’s Kaidon Salter or JuJu Lewis).
  • Of the conference opponents, CU kind of got lucky? Iowa State is scary, as is KSU, but everyone else here feels beatable. No TT, a lot of rebuilding teams (WVU, oh boy) and plenty of toss-ups, with some favorable matchups at home.
  • I LOVE the placement of the late bye before two of CU’s most physical and hardest games of the year. CU could conceivably be 5-7 all the way up to 8-2 before that stretch, so having a chance to rest before the homestretch could be the difference between a conference championship game appearance or not.
  • No one on this schedule has a better D-line than CU, except for maybe BYU. Let’s go.

I’m already excited for the fall, here we go again, Buffs fans. Buckle up.
