Who’s healthy for the Buffaloes
We’re only minutes away from football on a rainy night at Folsom Field! Colorado will open their conference slate with a Big 12 matchup against the Baylor Bears, looking to advance their record to 3-1. The Buffaloes are healthy for the most part, but they have some key absences for tonight’s matchup.
Running back Dallan Hayden is out tonight, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. Thamel reported that Hayden suffered a high ankle sprain against Nebraska in week two, as he missed action last weekend in Fort Collins. Micah Welch and Isaiah Augustave are expected to be Colorado’s one-two punch from the backfield in place of Hayden. Notably, Hayden was warming up in full pads ahead of tonight’s game, so there’s a small chance we may still see him.
Defensive tackle Chidozie Nwankwo will also miss action tonight after suffering a foot injury in Lincoln. This will be Nwankwo’s second consecutive game in street clothes on the sideline, so hopefully he can rest up and get ready for UCF next weekend. His backup, Taurean Carter, will likely be out for the season after undergoing surgery, which was announced by Deion Sanders on Tuesday. Because of these injuries, Anquin Barnes will get the start for the second straight week.
Shilo Sanders underwent surgery to repair a broken forearm after the Nebraska game, so he will also be unavailable. Sanders’ initial prognostic was a 2-3 week absence, so there’s a good possibility we will see him return fairly soon.
As for Baylor, it’s unclear who the Bears will start at quarterback. Usual starter Dequan Finn is battling a rib injury and backup Sawyer Robertson started against Air Force last week. Both Finn and Robertson are listed as co-QB1 on Baylor’s depth chart, so we will know on the Bears’ first possession.
Losing Shilo, Hayden, and Nwankwo certainly isn’t ideal, but Colorado has the depth to pull off a victory against Baylor’s mystery quarterback tonight. As well, Go Buffs! Beat the Bears!
