Travis is a generational talent on both sides of the ball
Welcome to our official countdown until football season! There’s only one day (!!!) left until the Colorado Buffaloes kick off the 2024 campaign against the North Dakota State Bison at Folsom Field on August 29th, so we at Ralphie Report are going to celebrate the only way we know how: with some power rankings! Over the next 20 days, we’ll rank the 20 most important players for the Colorado Buffaloes ahead of the 2024 season.
At long last, we’re finally down to the last two players on our list. It was a tough decision between Travis Hunter and a specific Colorado quarterback for the #1 spot, but we at Ralphie Report ultimately decided to put Hunter at #2.
Remember, this list ranks the most IMPORTANT players on Colorado’s roster going into the season, not the best or most talented. If we were ranking the best players, Hunter would have that #1 spot locked down.
Hunter is a generational talent on both sides of the ball. At cornerback, his combination of body control, elite vision, and football IQ make him capable of pulling off insane players, like those diving picks against TCU and UCLA. There is a VERY short list of other guys in the world who could pull that off, and they’re all in the league.

On offense, Hunter is probably Colorado’s best wide receiver. He can jump higher than you and highpoint the ball. He’s faster and more agile than you. He will burn you if you make the slightest mistake.
It’s not ridiculous to say that Hunter is the best player Colorado’s had since Rashaan Salaam in 1994, who won the Heisman with the Buffs. That’s how good Hunter is. If the Buffs can manage to win eight or more games, there’s a good chance that Hunter will be sitting on stage come Heisman ceremony night.
Colorado NEEDS Hunter to stay healthy this season. He missed nearly four full games in 2023 after a dirty hit from Henry Blackburn lacerated his liver. If Hunter can stay on the field for all 12 of Colorado’s games, there’s no telling how high the Buffs can soar.
