Tyler Brown pass protecting
Roc is finally able to help the Buffs win
Welcome to our official countdown until football season! There’s only a few weeks left until the Colorado Buffaloes kick off the 2024 campaign against the North Dakota State Bison at Folsom Field on August 29th, so we at Ralphie Report are going to celebrate the only way we know how: with some power rankings! Over the next 20 days, we’ll rank the 20 most important players for the Colorado Buffaloes ahead of the 2024 season.
It was a blow to the offensive line last year when the NCAA (lol) handed down a punishment form on high that Tyler Brown was ineligible to play immediately. A transfer from Jackson State (and ULM), Brown had to sit out last year and watched his quarterback Shedeur Sanders get PUMMELED. A year older and wiser, with a second year in Boulder, Tyler Brown will start for the Colorado Buffaloes somewhere along on the offensive line.
Brown projects as a prototypical offensive guard, with a 6’4, 310 pound frame. However, he has long arms and is the strongest offensive lineman on the team. He has been moved from guard to center to tackle this offseason as a means of cross-training, but based on recent reports, Brown has settled at right tackle for now. Consider Tyler Brown the polar opposite of Jordan Seaton’s build - he is compact, old and powerful. At right tackle, he will need to use every ounce of his reach in order to keep Sanders clean. On the other end, a right side of the line that includes Khalil Benson and Tyler Brown needs to be able to run the ball well. That will be the strong point of the line.
Why is Tyler Brown so important? He is an emotional leader on this team. Brown has earned respect as a consistent, hard worker along the front lines who is stronger than anyone else in the building. He has the talent to start and start right away. If he is at right tackle, he will need to lock down that side as Jordan Seaton will be attacked. If he is right guard, Brown needs to be the run game cudgel for Dallan Hayden to run behind. Either way, he has the high-end offensive line talent that CU did not last year. That needs to show out for the Buffs to be successful.
