Colorado’s quarterback is a legit Heisman candidate
Welcome to our official countdown until football season! Today is the day that the Colorado Buffaloes kick off the 2024 campaign against the North Dakota State Bison at Folsom Field on August 29th, so we at Ralphie Report are going to celebrate the only way we know how: with some power rankings! Over the next 20 days, we’ll rank the 20 most important players for the Colorado Buffaloes ahead of the 2024 season.
We’ve finally reached the conclusion of our list, and what better way to end on than Colorado’s star quarterback?
Shedeur Sanders is the real deal. If you watched the Buffs last season, you already know that. Sanders is legitimately one of the best in the entire nation. He’s cerebral, smart, mobile enough to make crazy plays, and probably the most accurate passer in all of college football. In short, Shedeur is a legit Heisman candidate who will have the spotlight on him all season long.
The Buffaloes need Shedeur to take the next step forward to accomplish their goals this season. He showed flashes of greatness last season, especially in the first three weeks, but was ultimately hampered by Colorado’s terrible offensive line and a nagging ankle injury.
In 2024, the proverbial training wheels have been taken off and Shedeur is getting set loose. Colorado’s offensive line is much better and they added two of the most dynamic wide receivers in the country to an already stacked unit.
This season lives and dies with Shedeur. If he can stay healthy and pick up where he left off last season, Colorado could be REALLY good. If he’s getting sacked 5+ times a game and can barely walk by week 9, the Buffs’ season is toast.
Colorado’s offense is tailor-made for Shedeur’s success. He has everything he needs to succeed (assuming the offensive line isn’t a disaster). If Shedeur can improve even 1% from last season, the Buffs are in a fantastic place. As perhaps the best quarterback this school has ever seen, Shedeur can take Colorado Football to places we thought to be impossible two short years ago.
