This is the final ride for the Original Buffalo
Welcome to our official countdown until football season! There’s only a few weeks left until the Colorado Buffaloes kick off the 2024 campaign against the North Dakota State Bison at Folsom Field on August 29th, so we at Ralphie Report are going to celebrate the only way we know how: with some power rankings! Over the next 20 days, we’ll rank the 20 most important players for the Colorado Buffaloes ahead of the 2024 season.
If you’ve watched Colorado Buffaloes football over the last three years, you know the name Trevor Woods. Woods has played in 26 games with the Buffs since 2021, establishing himself as one of Colorado’s best defensive players. With 116 solo tackles, three picks, three forced fumbles, and ten pass deflections, Woods has been a force to be reckoned with in the secondary.
After playing his two-and-a-half season as a safety, Deion and the coaching staff moved Woods to inside linebacker during last year’s game against Stanford. With Woods’ 6-2, 205 lbs frame, he slid seamlessly into his new role, and the change stuck. Woods will play the entire 2024 season starting at ILB and has been bulking up all offseason to prepare. Clocking in at 224 pounds (according to Deion at media day), Woods is ready to lay the wood this season.
As we talked about yesterday, Colorado’s run defense was a major problem last season. Woods and fellow linebacker LaVonta Bentley are the key to ensuring that doesn’t happen again this season.
New defensive coordinator Robert Livingston is letting the safeties play much deeper than they did last season so the linebackers will need to step up to stop the run. There will be no Shilo Sanders watching the mesh this season, meaning they’re putting tremendous trust in Woods to clog up the middle.
Woods is an Orignal Buffalo, being one of the longest-tenured players within the program. He’s a respected leader in the defense and the locker room. He’ll need to call out plays and cause commotion on defense. If he can do that, the Buffs defense should be ready to take their next step.
