TDS is headed to Orlando

For the first time ever, two Colorado Buffaloes have been picked in the first round of the NBA Draft. Cody Williams went off the board at pick 10 to Utah, and now Tristan da Silva will be headed to the Orlando Magic with the 18th overall pick.

Da Silva, a 6-foot-8 wing from Munich, Germany, will make a difference immediately for the Magic. Paired with Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero, da Silva is joining one of the youngest and most versatile frontcourts in the entire NBA.

After coming to Boulder as a complete unknown in 2020, da Silva quickly established himself as an elite spot shooter and great ballhandler. He is lethal if given any space from three-point range off the catch-and-shoot and is efficient when driving to the basket.

Orlando is a great spot for da Silva to land. Da Silva profiles as a solid bench piece for the Magic, perhaps as an 8th or 9th man. He won’t be asked to do too much immediately but will play meaningful minutes on a playoff team as a rookie.

His shooting stands out as a huge asset to the Magic as a team that doesn’t necessarily have many shooting threats on the roster. Da Silva might honestly already be the best shooter on the Magic’s roster.

Congratulations, Tristan!
