Super Bowl XXXIV - St. Louis Rams v Tennesee Titans

We’ve got another gold jacket coaching in Boulder.

We might have to rename the Champions Center to Canton with all the Hall of Famers Colorado’s got on staff. On Friday morning, Deion Sanders brought on one more gold jacket recipient by hiring Marshall Faulk as CU’s new running backs coach.

Faulk is now the third NFL Hall of Famer of staff in Boulder, with Sanders himself and defensive assistant Warren Sapp being the other two. Faulk played in the NFL for 11 seasons in Indianapolis and St. Louis, being an integral part of the Rams’ “Greatest Show on Turf” team that won Super Bowl XXXIV. Faulk has seven seasons with 1000+ rushing yards and 136 career touchdowns, along with being named league MVP in 2000, which was enough to make him a first-ballot Hall of Famer in 2011.

Faulk takes over the running backs coach role from Gary “Flea” Harrell, who left the job in January 2025 for undisclosed reasons. Faulk has no prior coaching experience before coming to Boulder.

Faulk’s addition to the staff has been rumored for nearly a month, but it was finally made official on February 7th. The Hall of Famer will have the reigns over promising running backs like Micah Welch, Isaiah Augustave and Dallan Hayden, as CU looks to improve its run game in 2025.
