Which Buffs Are Playing? A Breakdown of the Five Colorado Players Competing
It’s officially all-star game season and five Colorado Buffaloes are about to take center stage at the East-West Shrine Bowl.
For those unfamiliar, the East-West Shrine Bowl is one of the most prestigious postseason all-star games in college football. Each year, top players from around the country gather to compete, interview, and showcase their skills in front of NFL executives, scouts, and media members representing all 32 teams. With a long history of producing future NFL stars, this game serves as an early proving ground for many draft hopefuls.
This year, the Shrine Bowl holds extra significance for Colorado Buffaloes fans, as five Buffs will take the field in the nationally televised event. The Buffaloes representing CU in this year’s game include:
- LaJohntay Wester (WR) – One of the most electrifying and consistent receivers in the nation, Wester will look to showcase his quickness, and ability to make plays in space.
- Shilo Sanders (S) – Known for his hard-hitting style and ball-hawking skills, Shilo will aim to prove he’s a legitimate NFL-caliber safety after an up-and-down season.
- Will Sheppard (WR) – With his size, hands, and ability to win contested catches, Sheppard will get a chance to display his deep-threat ability.
- Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig (DB) – A versatile defensive back who has played a critical role in CU’s secondary, Silmon-Craig will look to impress with his instincts, coverage skills, and open-field tackling. Expect to give great interviews throughout the week, as he is a guy who impresses off the field just as much as on the field.
- Jimmy Horn Jr. (WR) – A dynamic slot receiver with unreal speed, Horn will need to prove himself after being sidelined by an injury for the final five games of the season.
Shedeur Sanders’ Presence Without Playing
It should also be noted that Shedeur Sanders is attending Shrine Bowl practices, meetings, and interviews, despite not suiting up for the game. With his draft stock projected to be among the highest in this year’s class, Shedeur has little to gain by playing in an all-star game. However, his presence at the event allows him to meet with NFL coaches, GMs, and scouts in a professional setting. At this point, it remains unclear whether Shedeur will participate in Colorado’s pro day or throw at the NFL Combine, but for now, he is focused on preparing for the draft process while ensuring he makes a strong impression on teams that could select him early.
When, Where, and How to Watch?
The Shrine Bowl will take place on Thursday, January 30th, at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. The game is scheduled to kick off at 6:00 PM Mountain Time (8:00 PM ET) and will be broadcast live on NFL Network.
Buffs fans won’t want to miss this chance to watch some of CU’s top talent compete on a national stage, as these players take one step closer to hearing their names called in the 2024 NFL Draft.
