Colorado is going back.

Reports came in quickly Wednesday that the Colorado Buffaloes were close to a move back to the Big 12 Conference. One day later, the Buffs were officially back. My how fast things move in the conference realignment era (one of them, at least).

After the University of Colorado Board of Regents unanimously approved a resolution Thursday allowing the University of Colorado Boulder to join the Big 12 Conference effective for the 2024-25 academic year, Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark announced the move in a way that provided a nice nod to his unique history in basketball that seems to be driving some of his hopes for the future of the conference.

At Thursday’s press conference announcing the move, Colorado Athletic Director Rick George provided some hints as to what drove the decision, citing favorable time slots and national exposure along with a desire to be aligned with Fox and the Big 12. Those wishes, along with the opportunity to earn a full $30M+ share right off the bat, proved too much to ignore with the fate of the Pac-12 and it’s upcoming media deal still up in the air.

We may be losing great vacation destinations but we're gaining a passionate football audience and programs that are investing for success along with what is likely to be the best basketball conference in the nation.

Pac-12, it was fun. Big 12... we’re back. Now we turn our attention to making blind guesses at who may be joining us.
