Colorado's racking up some hardware
Three Colorado Buffaloes have been awarded postseason honors from the Big 12, annoucned by the conference in a press release on Thursday morning.
The first of which is quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year for his record-breaking year as a Buffalo. Sanders was awarded with the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Trophy for the 2024 season, given to the most prolific quarterback in all of college football.
Sanders finished the season with 3925 passing yards and 35 touchdowns, with only eight interceptions, along with a completion percentage of 74.2%. After being awarded the preseason all-conference spot at quarterback, Sanders backed up that honor, leaving no doubt that he’s the best quarterback to ever put on a Colorado uniform.
Two-way superstar Travis Hunter was given Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year honors for his work at cornerback for the Buffaloes this season. Quarterbacks were typically too scared to even try to throw the ball on Hunter’s side of the field, but he made them pay when they did. Hunter tallied four interceptions this season and a forced fumble, along with 11 pass break-ups.
This isn’t even accounting for Hunter’s heroics on the offensive side of the ball when lined up at receiver, where he had 1152 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns. It looks as though Hunter has the Heisman on lock, but Big 12 DPoY is a nice little cherry on top.
Last but not least, CU defensive end BJ Green was recognized as Big 12 Defensive Newcomer of the Year. After transferring from Arizona State last winter, Green wreaked havoc off the edge, totaling 7.5 sacks and 30 tackles in 2024. Along with that, Green forced two fumbles and recovered another. The former Sun Devil was a game-changer for Colorado this season and is finally getting some kudos for his heroics.
Colorado’s three award recipients will get the opportunity to play in one more game as a Buffalo this bowl season. Be sure to tune in on December 8th when the bowl commits announces who the Buffs will play and where.
