It’s official!

What we’ve all known for the last three months is now official. Colorado WR/CB Travis Hunter is one of the four finalists in the race for the Heisman Trophy.

Hunter will sit alongside Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, Miami quarterback Cam Ward and Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel at the Downtown Athletic Club in Manhattan, where one will be awarded the most prestigious individual award in all of college football.

Hunter’s inclusion in the top four is anything but a shocker, as sportsbooks currently have him as a hefty favorite to run away with the Heisman. According to FanDuel, Hunter’s odds to win the award sit at -4000, while Jeanty sits in second place with odds of +1100. In other words, this race is essentially over and the Heisman is more than likely coming back to the Champions Center at Folsom Field.

The biggest question of the Heisman finalist announcement wasn’t if Hunter would be included. Instead, Colorado fans anxiously awaited to see if QB Shedeur Sanders would be a finalist as well. Sanders has thrown for 3.9k yards and 35 touchdowns with only 8 picks this season, winning the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award for 2024, given to college football’s best upperclassman quarterback.

Perhaps due to Hunter’s heroics or media bias, Sanders was not named a Heisman finalist. Throughout the season, Sanders has been adamant that the most important thing to him is Hunter winning the trophy, so all is well that ends well.

Hunter is only the fourth Buff to go to New York as a Heisman finalist, with Bryon “Whizzer” White in 1937, Eric Bieniemy in 1990 and Rashaan Salaam in 1994 being the other three players. Salaam is currently the only Buffalo to win the Heisman Trophy for his heroics at running back in 1994, but it’s looking like Hunter will bring a second statue back to Boulder.

It’s an exciting time to be a Buff and there’s no better time to check the Ralphie Report! We’ll be providing Heisman content all week long, so be sure to keep up and tune in!
