Deion Sanders can recruit receivers like no other.

There are three inevitabilities in life: death, taxes, and the Deion Sanders-led Colorado Buffaloes landing superstar wide receivers through the transfer portal.

After a season where transfers Will Sheppard and LaJohntay Wester tore up opposing secondaries, the Buffs managed to land another star in the making from the portal in Tulsa standout Joseph Williams.

Williams is fresh off an impressive 2024 campaign, where he hauled in 30 catches for 588 yards and five touchdowns, earning him AAC Freshman of the Year honors. After initially committing to Kyle Whittingham’s Utah Utes earlier this week, Williams had a change of heart and flipped his commitment to Colorado. He has three years of eligibility remaining.

Williams will be a huge asset to Colorado’s offense due to his impressive versatility. He excelled last season as a big-play threat with the Golden Hurricanes last season, but he can really do whatever you want him to.

His 6-foot-2, 195-pound frame allows him to bully corners along the boundary and jump up to snag contested balls, but he’s so big that he can’t be utilized out of the slot or in the flat if called upon. He’s a natural athlete with great hops and impressive speed, which is exactly the type of receivers that we know Deion Sanders and Pat Shurmur love to bring into the program.

With both of most of Colorado’s big play threats departing Boulder following this season, it makes perfect sense for Williams to slide into a similar role to Will Sheppard for 2025 and beyond. Having a receiver that you can just chuck it up to will be a huge help for freshman quarterback Juju Lewis, making this a great portal get for Deion Sanders and the Buffs.

Welcome to Boulder, Joseph!
