Really want to see a big-time recruiter added to the staff

There are a number of assistants that recruit well where ever they are.
With $2.6 Million for the staff, I hope we higher one of them.
Tosh Lupoi would be my first pick.
Trooper Taylor form Auburn.
Adrian Klemm at UCLA.
or Matt Lubick from Duke.

Also, I think Darian Hagan was a very good recruiter.

If we could add Lupoi, Lubick and Hagan to Jeffcoat and the coordinators MacIntyre wants to bring in would be a great combination.

We are not getting Lupoi or Klemm. We do not want Trooper Taylor. Matt Lubick would be terrific.

And Darian Hagan? Really?

I hope you are wrong about not being able to get Lupoi or someone similar.
I would be very happy with Lubick, but with the money we can now spend, I would want to do more than just Lubick.

And Yes Hagan really. If he is not part of any infighting, He is an alum, he is from LA and he recruited very well in the past. Darrell Scott did not work out, but getting him to come to CU was a huge coup.

Problem with Hagen is that he isn't a great coach.

How about finding a position for Kanavis? He and Jeffcoat would be a strong combination in Texas.

Kanavis and Hagan looked liked competent recruiters because the rest of the staffs they were on were ****ing awful.

That is one who flew the coup.

Brennan Carroll for TE Coach / Recruiting Coordinator.

(One of the main reasons I was hoping we'd hire Golden from Miami.)

I'd say there's next to no shot at Lupoi...if we get Jeffcoat as DL coach, where does Lupoi go? Just to a recruiting coordinator spot? Doubt it. He'd have to lose a gameday title, and doubt that'd happen.
And he already makes about $500,000...even if that number was upped, that's a big chunk of change to a guy that doesn't even coach a position.

A "Recruiting Coordinator" can't go out and recruit, can he? What do or can they do?

The RC can sure as **** recruit if he's on the coaching staff. That's a pretty standard title. Having our RC be an administrator was unusual. That position really should be "Director of Football Recruiting" as something separate from a staff position. Frankly, I think it was done this way with Hagan because he wanted to be a coach and they gave him a title for his resume that a coach would normally have.

What the hell is a "big time recruiter"???? I think the best recruiters are guys that have their connections, to be sure, and are able to sit down with a family of a high school player and sell their program. But in the end the recruiter is only as good as the school, the values, the relationships and the effectiveness of the team. Seems like the OP wants to hire an agent, maybe Boras or somesuch, to make something out of nothing.

Certainly it is easier to recruit to USC or Texas, but you have to admit that some coaches can sell better than others. Look at Orgeron: He recruited talented kids to where ever he was coaching: Ole Miss, Tennessee as well as USC. I am sure he could recruit lights out to CU. Boulder has plenty to sell.

Yeah, Orgeron at Tennessee, right! Comes storming into an auditorium full of recruits and rips off his shirt, while screaming platitudes about Rocky Top!

Just how did Big Ed's class work out this past year? What's that? You say they fired the head coach?

Well, then, what about U$C? Oh yeah, they were what? 7-5 this year? WOW! Great job Eddie!

Hagan

Where did the idea that Hagan's a great recruiter come from?
He is one of the coaches I don't know. I can't comment on him from a first hand stand point. That said, I understand he was instrumental in landing D Scott. While that turned out to be an unmitgated disaster, including his relationship with the player, he did play a big part in landing a top 5 recruit.

If we are going to maintain current staff, I would look at two places. 1.) Texas Success. 2.) Poly success.

On a week where the world is crazy, thank god for the distraction of sports.

Go Buffs.

So you don't like Ed Orgeron as a recruiter. Who would you rather have added to the staff as the recruiting coordinator?

I think Kanavis has everything it takes including a good rep as a pro and as a teacher (Houston Schools) and he's a professional. Acts with class and parents respect him. He and Cabral are the only former Buffs that I'd be okay with if they were asked to be part of the new staff in fact.

There is no doubt in my mind that it'd be best if Darian Hagan moved on at this point. Embree did NOT want him as a coach, and I see no real signs that he is a great recruiter. I know one thing..... he is fun to sit with at a CU Buff event because he doesn't stop blabbing inside information that he should not be sharing. He will tell a stranger (donor) pretty much anything that you'd normally not share with say, the press.

Why does it seem to me that these "awesome recruiters" never turn out to have much success as football coaches? At the end of the day, these "salesguys" get about 1-2 years of a bump in a new job. But during year 2, if recruits aren't seeing significant improvement in on-field play, Tosh Lupoi won't be effective as a recruiter. At this point, I'll take awesome coaches at every position. If we show some improvement, our recruiting will bump quickly. I'm not sure it matters for 2013 anyways. Looks to me we have less scholarships than guys coming in so we may be done (and over-signing as is).

I agree on Orgy-man. I'd like to have the guy that recruited Pete Carroll's best classes: his son, Brennan Carroll, TE coach under Golden at Miami.

I checked out some of the players he signed to USC and Miami. Looks like Brennan Carroll would be a big time recruiter for CU. Also, looked up Matt Lubick and he brought a ton of talent to ASU.
let's get them both.

We'd have current, proven big time recruiters with those two on the staff.
