After a brief stint in the AP top 25, the Buffs fell out after a demoralizing loss at home to unranked USC. Colorado picked up a huge overtime win against UCLA prior and really should still be ranked. The Buffs have beaten current #22 Arizona, #14 UCLA, and #7 Utah, proving that they can win big games and the USC game was an outlier.
#25 Colorado vs. #8 UCLA
This past weekend the Buffs were part of an electric showdown in Boulder against a very good UCLA team. They got out to a slow start as they looked to take down the #8 overall team for the second time this year. The Buffs and Bruins traded punches throughout the first half, leading to a 33-28 deficit at the break. The Buffs got cooking in the third with the help of Frida Formann who had been struggling in the first half. After going 1-for-8 in the first half, she hit two big threes to pull the Buffs within one. Formann finished 3-for-15 from the field but her timely threes gave the Buffs important momentum. The Buffs outscored UCLA 45-37 down the stretch and into overtime. After an intense back and forth, the Buffs found themselves tied at 70 with 42 seconds remaining in the game. It wouldn’t be until the final seconds that the Buffs iced the game when Kindyll Wetta drained her first-ever game-winner with two seconds left. Wetta had ice in her veins as she nailed her only three-point attempt of the night. Colorado held onto the lead, winning by a final score of 73-70. The Buffs have proven their ability to beat talented teams nationwide, showing that they are one of the top teams themselves.
