Who have we not talked about a lot but could be really ready for a "next step forward" kind of year?
I think Tony Jones has been mentioned some, but most people seem to be expecting him to be average at best.

247 sports just did a piece with Coach blacken. Interestingly, he mentioned that Tony Jones looks "ready to step out of Speedy's shadow" and that he has gained 12 pounds of muscle since the end of last season. I'm excited for him.

Also great things about Kenneth Crawley and Alex Lewis.

Richardson? Hell I just want to be invited.

I'm most excited about the freshmen and about the new players who will step into the void left by the departing seniors.

That is the best part about college football - Someone new is already coming to the forefront.

We already know what Major and Rippy can do. I really hope and believe D. Webb will step up and be our dirty hitter. He may get some flags this year but he will make the other team hurt.

I got the chance to speak with Tony Jones at the summer football camp. He is excited and CONFIDENT to be the man. BTW, he looks much more physically solid than last year. I am also optimistic about the OL.

If Jones has a breakout season, keep in mind he's only a sophomore and plus we could have the same starting QB for the next two to three seasons.

We have a good number of big WRs who could help with the downfield blocking. Thornton would be a good example of this since he was moved from TE to WR. I'm waiting on Darden to show up on the field and contribute.

Ray Polk. Maybe more hope than anything, but if Polk is competing for all-conference honors, we are going to be much improved in the secondary. If he still shows inconsistency, things are going to be ugly back there (bottom of the conference) for the second consecutive season.

Also should be fun to watch Pericak close out his career. Everything you want in a Buff.

I'm looking towards the future

Woodson Greer
Brady Daigh
Kyle Washington (who will step in for Rippy/Major in '13)
Nick Kasa
Nelson Spruce
Jack Harris
Connor WOod

Kasa, Polk, and Harrington. Maybe Bell, if recovered. Also think Terrel Smith can step up and deliver if called on and will do so.

If our OL can block anything Jones will be the most important single player on the offense. I believe he has the work ethic to follow in Speedy's footsteps nicely.

On defense the secondary if healthy will be a much better strength of this team. Polk, Orms and Henderson bring huge experience and as we've seen on the field they do not take plays off even when overmatched.

The Folsom Uzi

Uzo-Diribe has a chance to shine. He will also command a lot of attention. Interested to see what kind of year he has.

For returning players, I'm most excited to see Tony Jones. He has to step up and be a leader.

For the new guys:

Dammit Snow. Now you've gotten me all excited about football...something I promised myself would not happen.

The secondary because that was the weakest link last year

The offensive line and whether or not we become a ground and pound team or not

TJ on O. Polk on D. If Polk wants to play beyond college, this is his time to audition. He has the ability, just gotta be more consistent this year. Im excited about alot of the freshman. Ive seen Solis play a few games on tv and was impressed, he should contribute quite a bit this year.

Obviously on a ST note, we need Oliver in fine form. Any hopes of a bowl will involve us sneaking out a few close ones that come down to fg's

I'm really hoping Nembot can take somebody's spot on the OLine. That would mean he's turned a corner, and if he's turned a corner, we are gonna be NASTY!

Defense, I'll go Sherrard Harrington. We get our secondary shored up.

If these guys don't count as returning players since they didn't actually play, I'll go Harris and Uzo.

Hopefully one of the young guys coming in or somebody can take hold of the return game, punt and kickoff return. It would help the offense a ton if we had some short fields for a change.

Greg Henderson (assuming we can get someone half-competant to shore up the other side)
Brady Daigh (hoping he gets inside and starts laying the wood)
Nembot (hoping to start hearing more than just "potential" talk)
Darrah O'Neil (just so I can continue to talk **** to the dumb ass sportscasters that will talk about how he can kick the ball with both of his feet on each and every televised punt )

Of returning players, if I had to pick two I'd say T. Jones (offense) and D. Rippy (defense), but I'm excited to see everyone. I'm particularly nervous about QBs and WRs on offense and pretty much the entire defense, although the LBs (if healthy) could end up being very good.

We're going to struggle still, so don't get your hopes up. No problem with being excited, just don't be excited for a ****ton of wins.
