2018 opponent, so it deserves its own thread.

CU will be playing at least 3 teams with new HCs in 2018.

This is going to be a train wreck of a search-they're so into Frosty that they don't have any sort of backup plan for when he spurns them for Florida.

The guy Nebraska should hire is Craig Bohl, but they won't. They think they need to re-invent themselves as a flashy program with a big name and dynamic offense who will get them into FL, CA and TX like if they were Notre Dame. That's not who they are and as long as they keep trying to be this other thing they will not succeed.

Did you mean to say "CU" rather than Florida?

Either way-Scott Frost is not taking that job, and NU does not have any sort of back-up plan. Buffnik-I do have them hiring Craig Bohl. He'll be anxious to leave Wyoming after Allen declares, and he's somebody who can make their redneck fans fairly happy (until we go in there on 9/8/18 and beat them by four touchdowns)

It’s impossible to hate Mike Riley so I’m glad his association with that school has ended.

Agree. Turns out Nebraska, Oregon State, and Riley would have been better off had he never left Corvallis

I actually wouldn't mind Riley replacing Bernardi in the senior statesman role handling much of the day to day and allowing Mac to fill out the rest of his staff with some young, dynamic recruiters.

Why are you so sure he won't go to nubs?

Sure, he's from there.......but he's got a bizarre relationship with that fanbase. He spurned NU out of high school to go Stanford, transferred back to NU, and wasn't exactly given a warm welcome. Recruiting. NU is one of the hardest places in the country to recruit to-they lost the access in TX they had when they left the Big 12, and they've made no effort to schedule down there. Its another cold, desolate place that nobody wants to play in........and thats before you start talking about how weird that fanbase is. If Frost goes to UF, he's not going to have to go more than five hours to get any kid he may want.

Wasn't it Frost's girlfriend that Lawrence Phillips dragged down the stairs by her hair because she had spurned him for Scott? Yeah ... I'm thinking that Frost may not have good memories of good ol' Stincoln.

If you're a Nebraska fan, you really have to question Frost's commitment to his teammates, the program and the community if he wanted Phillips punished over that.

Is the TX recruits thing a little exaggerated for Nebraska? I know it gets mentioned all the time but saw where a lot of Nebraska's championship teams had only a handful of Texans on the team.

When you are in a state like Nebraska, you'd want to be able to get anyone from anywhere.

Their 2018 schedule includes:

@Ohio State
@Michigan
@Wisconsin
@Iowa
Michigan State
Colorado
Minnesota
Purdue
@Northwestern

Probably at least 5 losses built into that. Whoever is hired should get a free year where 6-6 is seen as a successful season.

I think my favorite narrative that those dorks believe is that their AD was a rogue agent who intentionally failed them. They claim he didn’t even do a coaching search because it hurts too much to think they were likely told no from several candidates before settling on Riley. It’s still an okay job, especially with the money they can offer you and your staff, but I think there’s a reason that Riley was the best they could do last time. We will see if Frost returns to them or not.

The meltdown in Nebraska will be epic if Frost spurns them for Florida. I'd not be feeling good if I was a Husker fan since they know deep down that UF > Nubs when it comes to the coaching job.

If anyone hasn't but has Showtime, I highly recommend the doc Running for His Life. It's a doc about Lawrence Phillips, and while nothing can really absolve Phillips of his transgressions, the documentary does at least dull the sharpness of the general judgement down on Phillips. I guess this could play into how you view society and politics, but family and society let Phillips down as a child.

I'm sure most of us are friends with at least one die-hard Nebraska fan, and yeah...it seems like Frost is candidate A with no plan B. I mentioned Bohl in another thread, and I think he'd be a good hire. I forget who, but someone responded that Bohl was DC for 62-36 and perhaps that left a bad taste in fans' mouths??? I think that's a little absurd personally, bc he did a great job at NDSU and has done well at Wyoming. If Mac leaves after next year once Jay graduates, I would hope Bohl is considered (assuming Wyo doesn't implode) along with other candidates before we hire Les Miles.

The jobs aren't even close. UF is a couple levels better as a job. But I understand why Nub fans would freak out. A former Heisman winner from your program is the best chance the program has to land a guy of this caliber and if they can't do it then it's one hell of a reality check.

Bohl might be a better HC than he was a DC. God knows he was a craptacilar DC.

Frost got married just a few years ago to a now 28 year old women from Arizona (she graduated from Grand Canyon Univrsity in 2015 and they were married in Paradise Valley/Phoenix). Central Florida and Arizona are somewhat similar in culture. Gainesville is a decent college town, and it's close proximity to both Orlando and Tampa. If the wife has any influence, do you think an Arizona girl wants to go to Nebraska?

Anyway. If you put the pros of Nebraska versus Florida side by side, I think the only thing in Nebraska's column would be it the fact that it's his alma mater.

Florida - better talent on team, easy recruiting, better town, better weather, close proximity to vibrant urban centers, cost of living in Gainesville basically the same as Lincoln (both inexpensive), no income taxes in Florida which probably puts another $300,000 in his pocket each year, easy move 100 miles up the road so already established recruiting ties.

You could go on and on. Perhaps he really loves his alma mater, and ends up in Lincoln. But I think his young wife would be bumming.

[Side comment: UCF and South Florida are far and away the best two non power five jobs in the country. You could really make a good argument for staying at UCF. I'm very bullish on it and the city of Orlando.]

fwiw, I think the SEC will snag either Miami or FSU in the next round of realignment and it will push UCF to the ACC.

Are you thinking of Crouch as the former Heisman winner?

yeah, Cree, the UCF camp is desperately trying to lobby him to stay, created a an excellence fund to augment assistant coach salaries, excellent facilities...he could be the Bobby Bowden of UCF if he wanted to be, shepherd them into being a national power.

Good post. I would add Houston to the group with UCF and USF. All three are very good G5 jobs.
