Who is college football's best coach?

Before this season, I would have given the nod to Saban. Fairly comfortably, actually. But this season by Ohio State may be the greatest coaching job in the history of the sport. Certainly the best I can remember.

So... who's the best?
 
Hard to say. Both won big at different programs. Both can recruit, attract good assistants and gameplan. tOSU had the athletes to make Oregon's offense look weak and gimmicky. I'd give the edge to Meyer.
 
Urban left Utah... much better off than he found it. My vote will always be for Urban Meyer. 3 National Championships with 2 different universities (could have been 3). This man is one hell of a football coach.
 
man, I don't know. Let's see how Urban comes back. I think Meyer's couple years off really let Saban win when the rest of CFB was done.
 
Urban's not as dependent on defense as Saban is. Saban has to hire a guy like Kiffin to take care of the offense for him, while I think Urban handles both sides of the ball well enough that he's never that dependent on a coordinator that may or not be a liability.

Saban has one more NC than Urban, but seeing what he has done with the OSU program me thinks he will get 2 more NC's before Saban gets another one.
 
UM has made the Michigan/OSU game a must see for me now that JH is now coaching UM. Should be some great battles in a few years when JM has UM back in better shape.

Funny how everyone was saying the Big 10 was done this year (myself included) and now everyone expects juggernaut status from Michigan and OSU going forward. I agree with it (and I was wrong about the Big 10 being down), it is just funny how perceptions can change so quickly.

It isn't done, but my perception of the Big 10 outside of those two programs hasn't changed. Outside of MSU, they really don't have the depth to compare with the SEC or P12. Urban is smart for going to OSU - much easier to be the big kid on the block in the Big 10.

The score of the B1G championship game kinda highlights this point.

The Big 10 went 6-5 in their bowl games while the SEC went 7-5 (Pac 12 went 6-3). Not a perfect measure, but the Big 10 was better than people gave them credit for this year.

Big 10 earned that rep this year during the regular season by being absolutely terrible OOC (ahem, OSU v VT). a decent bowl record shows they improved throughout the year, but doesn't erase those performances. I wonder what the overall OOC records were per conference? Breakouts of v P5 and other would probably be helpful.
 
Expect to see lots more of both Alabama and tOSU in the playoffs in years to come, lights out recruiting and the best 2 college coaches in the game right now

The best team in the B1G beat the best team in the Pac12 on both sides of the ball. What does that say about the Pac12? Some here were arguing that the Pac was the best conference in the country either tied with the SEC or after the SEC. Thats a bit in doubt now.
