Can you guys help me understand the nuance in the little nugget quoted below?

"You can tell where we're at in practice," McElwain said. "Our enthusiasm was not there, but I was really happy with our intensity. (You could) kind of say the guys kind of learned how to focus."

I've been pondering this since I read that. I think it means that they are kind of like sheep focusing on eating grass while getting ****ed by their shepherd. No enthusiasm for the act, but simply a way of coping.

I thought that was odd. I wonder if it's his way of saying what Embree said about his kids last year...
 
Average speed and below average size on the DL. Good running backs and bad wide receivers. Question marks at quarterback and stability of the offensive line.

Poor defensive coaching staff.

Same as damn near every GoatU game, they will play with nothing to lose. We have holes, they have way more across the board. Make them our bitch early, put them in their place. Have a feeling Pow is gonna get some touches, feel bad for them in a way, I wouldnt wanna hit him.
 
I love the opening line of the article -"What the team lacked in emotion, they made up in intensity." The guy needs some writing lessons - intensity is defined as a high degree of emotional excitement.

The quote lacks clarity, but makes up for it in failure.
