Scripps family donates $2m to the CU AD

Interesting that the last couple of big donations to the AD have been for targeted support areas like this Career Development Program and the new Nutrition Program, rather than general AD or facility donations, though I suppose ultimately every dollar that goes to these areas allows us to provide new services and potentially frees up general budget money for things like increased salary pool or recruiting budget and its easier to show donors how their money is being used for something tangible to benefit the student athletes.

FIRST!

But what about curing cancer!

Nailed it.

The Scripps family is incredible! My contribution to the AD is pretty much "0" compared to this. However, I hope what the Scripps family has done over the years is inspiration to all alumni to support and contribute to athletics at CU.

I saw where they donated $2.5 million to a journalism program last year. I assume Troll was pissed about that as well since journalists don’t cure cancer either.

The article brought to mind the bigger point that Troll misses. Athletic scholarships provide a pathway to education that many of these young men and women would never have. The ripple effect of that in our society is something we can’t measure but it is strong and far reaching. And the football program is the anchor that makes all of that possible.

Athletics also provides a means of bringing some much needed diversity to a campus which sorely lacks it.

Another way it improves the educational experience of all.

And thats another huge point Troll misses. CU is lilly white. Athletics helps to bring more diversity. And I also have to say, when I hear these young black men and women who represent our school being interviewed, I couldn’t be more impressed with how well they represent CU.

Yet another point he misses is that with 250 or so scholarship athletes, the athletic department is funneling approximately $3MM per year to the general fund.

Actually, he doesn’t miss it at all. He is fully aware. He’s just a douche bag.

We all know what his end game is. He is the epitome of a politician. A guy with no apparent skill set who aspires to feed an ego driven by the inadequacy of his youth. He picked the low hanging fruit of a regent position to kick off his aspiring political career and is pandering to a base that probably view college athletics as a huge waste and as a plaything of the wealthy establishment.

And the more we all tire of their pathetic antics, the more righteous they feel in their crusade against the real world, which they’re going to “fix” with their passion and pluck. I keep hoping they’re going to grow up, but to paraphrase what he said (apparently, I didn’t listen to his ridiculous interview), he’s already all growns up.
