Sefo Liufau and CU

sefo was the heart and soul of this team.
I’d imagine he’d make a good QB coach or assistant of something at some point.

Thoughts?

We’ll evaluate this question once he has at a minimum 5 years coaching on the college level.

If he wants to coach some day, I'm sure Sefo will have opportunities.

Hopefully he'll get a lot of years under an NFL contract before that happens, though.

Even if he can get a couple years on practice squads and/or carrying a clipboard it will help him a huge amount as a coach at the college level.

Sefo is a sharp guy and nobody can question his drive and his willingness to work. If he were to choose to go that direction he would likely be a very good coach. It also follows though that those same characteristics will serve well in just about any field he decides to pursue.

I think he should be the team Dr. He has a lot of experience with injuries.
Seriously. And if learning more from your mistakes than your successes is a truism...actually he did seem to learn a lot from the first 3 years and finally had the outstanding 4th year.

There was some great wisdom in buffzone from Sefo today.

On the fact that leadership>>talent

"The biggest thing is leadership..."

On the problems with the 2017 team and the value of work:

"...because if they don't put in the work in the offseason, it doesn't just happen."

On Montez and the newcomers:

"I don't know if there's a whole lot of leadership in that team right now. There's a lot of new faces, I've heard; a lot of new JUCO kids; a lot of kids that I've heard through the grapevine that feel like they've accomplished something based off of what we did as seniors (in 2016). If that's the mentality they're going to have, they're not going to be successful, and that's kind of worrying to me."

"Before I was injured my senior year against Michigan, that's why I was so successful and playing so well, because I didn't go home for three weeks before summer break. I stayed here and recovered from my foot injury. I was training with a quarterback coach. I was doing everything in my power to make sure we had a successful year as a team. I think if (Montez) wants to be successful that's what he has to do and he has to bring other people with him."

I would prefer that Sefo go to another lower division place to consider becoming a coach. I believe that their could be a Rub between what type of leadership he would offer, versus the guys that are there right now. If Montez is to become the leader that we all want him to be, it is better not to have a competing voice that would always be saying that "This is how we did it and we won 10 games, blah, blah, blah!" He does not have good mechanics and may need to spend some time at a smaller school to really learn how to coach. He was a Warrior, but I do not want him directly involved right now, until he has experience, and everyone he played with are gone, so 4-5 years from now maybe bring him back.

I agree with this. I don't think Sefo is the mentor that Montez needs right now. Too close to each other with an established relationship. Roper's a fresh start and we're best served by keeping that fresh, I think.

Very doubtful he would be doing anything hands-on with the QBs as a grad assistant. Would probably help coach the receivers.

I’m not a fan of a former player coming back in any kind of coaching capacity this close to when he was a player. GA or not, he needs to wait at least another year, if not two, IMO.

Don't have a problem with him coming back.........In fact, I think having an extra set of hands with the receivers is a great idea. Don't want him anywhere near Steven Montez.......and I don't think he's that interested in doing anything coaching wise right now from what I've read. Read an interview with him in which he said DJ tried to talk him into a GA gig and he said no. Sounds like he wants to try being in corporate America for a bit.

Didn't want to start a new thread about this (and SIAP) ... but FYI the Taz is going to appear on Xfinity Monday Live on CBS4 (Denver) tonight at 6:30pm MT. I'm very proud he's a Buff.
