I guess the discussion is inevitable and people are gonna talk about it anyway, so use this thread. Who starts when Sefo's foot has healed?

I say stick with Montez...he's playing well and not turning the ball over.

Kids a winner hard to deny.
Love Sefo and was playing great when he went down.
damn tough call

barnett said on the post game show that it depends on this week v. usc.

if sefo is healthy and starts and does well, then it is his team. if sefo can't play, and montez plays great again, then montez probably goes the rest of the way. if sefo or montez struggle, then you have the unknown.

not sure if he had inside info or was just talking about how he'd handle it. basically, he said a starter doesn't lose a job ton injury until he does. the amount of time out matters.

IMO it's Sefo. You want his experience in the coliseum this week. Although I wouldn't mind opening it up to a straight up contest in practice. Let them go head to head and prove it on the field.

Montez has been great, and I'm really excited about what ge can do.

But come on - Sefo was playing lights out, too, and he is the leader of this team. There have been certain mistakes that Montez has made (like pick number 1 in Oregon) that Sefo won't make.

When Sefo is healthy Sefo starts.

Difference now is that if Sefo gets hurt he doesn't stay in and try to battle through it like he has in the past. Also if he struggles could easily see Montez getting a shot to lead the team.

Opponents are going to have to prepare for both.

I've been a big fan of Montez from the start but Sefo has done nothing to lose the starting job for this team. If he is healthy put him out there - he starts. If he has problems in any game we have a winner sitting there waiting. Montez has tasted it now and there will be no more problems like we saw in Michigan when he was put into a situation he was not mentally ready for. Montez will have his day in the sun, that is all but guaranteed now.

It's an unpopular opinion but I'd lean towards Montez. I do want to see Sefo start one more time at the same time, if he looks terrific then sure you let him finish it out but I'm not totally convinced he's washed out the previous 3 years. Montez clearly has much more natural talent to his game and while he's prone to more mistakes than Sefo now, he's also made plays that I don't believe Sefo can. I mean people are comparing Montez's first two starts as a freshman to 3 starts of Sefo as a Senior? And there's not a clear winner, I just think the future payoff is better with Montez. However, ideally, Sefo starts and destroys his past demons and leads us to a bowl game and more while we see Montez every once in a while..

fair point @azbuff, but montez made a couple throws today that i thought were nfl caliber throws. of course, sefo on one leg for a td against michigan was one of the greatest throws i have seen for CU.

these are the problems of aristocrats, my friends.

If spoon doesn't make that int, all we w talk about is another epic meltdown. Or Montez screwing up the 3d down run
But isn't that the point. Montez and the team made the plays with him at the helm. They failed to do that with Sefo many, many times.

If Sefo is 100% and only if so, he should start at USC. Sefo can better handle the adversity SC will bring. Sefo throws a much more accurate deep ball and is less prown to mistakes. He makes much wiser audibles. It isn't even that close. Montez will be a stud in 2017...he hasn't played real competition yet(except for UM).

Do we have stats to back that up, because my eyes must see something different. And Montez is significantly more accurate in the near to midrange routes.

UCLA 2014, our defense did what was necessary to win, stopped them and gave the ball to the offense. Sefo couldn't make the plays necessary to win. Several instances like that in the past with Sefo. Yet with Montez, he did make the plays necessary to win and we won, other people did their part, shouldn't take credit away from Montez. The point is not that that win makes Montez better, but still it's a bit ridiculous to deny this conversation should exist because of a reality that doesn't exist.

sefo dropped 2 dimes on Ross. He dropped them. Was that Sefo's fault?

My point is that this generic description of the game is doing a disservice to what happened. Ridiculous oversimplification, as it were.

Montez did account for 465 yds and 4 TDs, so there is an obvious reason for why we were in that position
Absolutely, he did well. I'm not sure how that made the defense make game changing plays. Point stands.

That was 2015 No one's over-simplifying it, you're the one who's making it about the Oregon result rather than Montez's performance in these 2 games. The Oregon result didn't make Montez the better option, his play in these 2 games, IMO, do.
