Just wanted to point out how good Sefo's numbers are, not sure if everyone really appreciates what this kid is doing!!!

Ranks in NCAA

Pass Attempts: 2nd
Completions : 2nd
Total Yards : 5th
# of TD's: 2nd
Completion %: 65.3
Overall QB Rating: 139.2

I'd say we have a pretty serviceable QB on our team.. I was surprised where he ranked after looking at his numbers, I like this kid.

If we only had a defense!!

His rating is up 10 pts from last year. I like the leadership he brings.

I am amazed at this offense. #1 in offensive plays, a top passing team and serviceable running team. D and ST are the weaknesses, but they will come with time.
 
After some serious questioning after his performance against Hawaii and how ineffective he was on 3rd downs and at times, he looked like the QB we were expecting to see this year. His runs were great and the offense was dynamic with him being able to spread the ball all over. The play calling was exceptional. I wish they had thought about that 4th down a little more.

just some fun for benchmarking purposes (all stats Sefo unless otherwise stated):

ESPN QBR Rating 2013: 54.4 - Rank = 80 (Wood 37.3)
ESPN QBR Rating 2014 (Week 5): 71.3 - Rank = 38/128 (N/A)

YPA 2013: 7.1 - Rank = 75 (Wood 7.0)
YPA 2014 (week 5): 6.6 - Rank = 86 (Gehrke 4.4)

2013 Normal QB Rating: 128.3 - Rank = 78 (Wood 120.4)
2014 Normal QB Rating: 139.2 - Rank = 56/126 (Gehrke 86.8)

Random things:
Passing Yards per game = #17 at 322.08 (Sefo is #5 in total passing yards in the nation)
Rushing Yards per game = #74 at 163 (4.1 YPA which is good for #76 in the nation)
Total Offense is #31 in yards/game.
PPG = 31.8 good for #51.

Analysis: Sefo is our offense. Run game is somehow almost average, even though I hate how we run the ball.

Despite all the production, CU is average in PPG. I believe we are worst, or near worst, in the nation when it comes to our average starting field position. Combine that with our bad D, and that # starts to make sense. Sefo, btw, is near perfect in the red zone. Our issues there are all about playcalling and the inability to run the ball in tight spaces.

I am glad we can have these stats threads for a couple weeks before entering the gauntlet.
 
I'd love to see the numbers on a per game basis. Aggregate ranks are a bit off since some teams have had bye weeks.

That said, there's no question that Sefo has performed like an upper-half P5 quarterback so far this year.

1. Not always playing from behind either
2. Bad half against uh
3. If we just had a damn run game to complement

More fun: Sefo is tied for 20th in the nation in tds per game, averages just under 3 TDs/game (20 points/game) and is tied for 2d with 17 TDs thrown. Out of the top five QBs in scoring, only one (Hill/A&M) is not from the P12.

This offense is interesting to me. We are #2 in plays per game (88.8, second to Western Kentucky at 91) and also #11 in time of poss (33:40.6). Usually, teams that have a large number of plays are like Oregon, you find TOP is lower. Not only do we get a lot of plays off, but we eat time a lot of time doing it, which seems counter-intuitive to me. Perhaps someone on the board could enlighten me on this.

I am very excited about this offense, and if we can get a more consistent running game going we will be downright dangerous. Can't wait for the D and ST to catch up.

We get into a lot of 3rd down situations because we don't run the ball effectively. And we don't have a lot of quick drives because we don't have a lot of speed burners.

Makes what Sefo is doing all the more impressive. Defenses are doing exactly what they are game planning to do... stuff our run game and force Sefo into 3rd and longs. It doesn't matter.

Also playing a big part in this is our ****ty average starting field position.

It helps a lot that Sefo's not taking sacks.

Plus, we've manufactured some long runs on Sefo's zone read and Lee's reverse. Not like we're getting a lot on base/standard runs.

I bet our average on that shotgun sweep play on first down is about 1.5 ypc at most.

Seemed to be doing better with TJ on Saturday. It makes a difference if the RB takes the rock and runs like he means it to try to gain the corner.
 
Rushing totals are boosted by a few huge runs in otherwise unsuccessful ground games.

those 2 40+yd runs by powell for example against ASU.
 
Looking at the PAC QBs, they are astounding; half of the QBs in the entire conference are in the top 20 (actually, top 16). Here's the conference and QB rank by conference.

Btw, CSU is one of the top rushing teams in the nation. (#15 in YPA). Sparkles has got it going on up there. Let's steal that OL coach and whatever steroids he's giving those guys.

Analysis: Despite playing the best defense they've played all year, the offense held serve with its average performance and even improved slightly on a few things. Good sign, especially with a series of defenses as good as OSU about to show up. Btw, Washington has two guys in the top 5 for sacks, and Utah has a guy leading the nation in sacks. Get ready Sefo.
