Sefo update

Listening to the live cast of the post practice conference.

HCMM says that Sefo says he is 100% and ready to go!
A follow up question was, "Do you feel he is 100% and ready to go?"

HCMM, "No. He's the toughest guy in the buildling, but he was saying he was 100% two weeks ago."

LONG STORY SHORT: game time decision
My money is on Montez

...wouldn't be surprised if Sefo re-broke his foot and won't tell anybody about it.

Sounds like MM can legitimately wait until game time and it won't look like he is trying to hide something. Although to me, for usc preparation, either quarterback is same type of prep, both run, both pass.

Not unless Sefo gets hurt again. Lindgren said this week that he will not rotate QB's.
Rotating QBs with almost identical playing styles is a great way to cause problems and division among the team. The only time you see a successful QB rotation is when one is more of a pocket passer and the other is more mobile and brings a change of pace to the offense.

by HCMM's care in answering questions and Montez's perceived annoyance after practice yesterday, it appears to me that Sefo is going to be playing as well.
Look, I know that Montez has played well, and he's a competitor. But I don't think it's appropriate for him to be annoyed (if he, in fact is). Sefo is the starter, Montez is the backup. Montez will likely have three years to start--his role now is a supporting one.

Agree 100%...the two have almost identical passing stats, minus one thing....2 picks by Montez. Both are exceptional guys, character wise and as athletes..but this is Sefo's team..let him go out if he's healthy and make a statement this weekend.

The defensive game plan for Montez would be markedly different than for Sefo. Montez hasn't been tested with a ton of disguise yet, except at Michigan (whose defense loves to hide what they do). So if you're game planing for Montez you will try and hide your defense until just before the snap count and slow CU's offense down by encouraging that look over to the sideline to determine whether CU should change plays. If you're game planning for Sefo then it is all about hits and pressure. Historically, the more you hit Sefo in the pocket the more mistakes he makes (like most QB's), but as a seasoned QB you're not likely to be as successful when attempting to hide what you're going to do (See the Michigan game).

I'm hoping Sefo plays. I know Montez' stats are pretty unbelievable and I've been hesitant to criticize his performance because I don't really think it's fair, but he DID complete some passes in the Oregon game that kinda floated up there and made me cringe while they were in the air. They were completions though, and some of them were big completions. That said, I think against a quicker defense or one that was in better position there was potential for some of those passes to be picked off. The buffs NEED to win the turnover battle and I think that older QBs understand the importance of getting rid of the ball more than younger ones.

Again, Montez played unbelievably and I say we have a chance in this game with either QB. I just think Sefo's time is now. Montez will get his time.

Sefo is the starter and he did nothing to lose his job. Montez totally understands his role is the backup for now. There is no issue or controversy. Montez still learning a lot of things. I'm a big fan and his ceiling projects really freakin high. But....
Sefo has great experience that will be invaluable against a defense that is much better than what we saw in Eugene. Clancy will be disguising the pressure and he loves pressure.

After Michigan, why are we bringing up old Sefo? New Sefo is the real deal. He fits perfectly with New Bobo and New Ross. This is a new EVERYTHING!

Let's Ride!
