Honestly, I was ragging on him during this one. I thought he deserved it on a lot of throws. There were a number of simple passes that seemed like play calls less about moving the chains and more about building Sefo's confidence by getting him into a rhythm with an easy completion... and he bounced or airmailed them.

But even with that, we're looking at game stats with over 60% completion, 3 TDs, over 7.5 ypa, and 1 INT that wasn't his fault.

He also got us some yards on the ground (when you take out that "interesting" series to end the game).

I guess what I'm getting at is that this is a young, developing QB who had a bad game and it wasn't even bad in retrospect. This is a guy that a team can win with. And, very important, when the team was down and his protection broke down he made the money throw of the game for the long TD to Spruce.

Work in progress at QB, but I'm close to feeling comfortable as long as he proves over the next couple that this was an example of a day he didn't have it rather than a regression that becomes the norm.
 
He has moxey. Just a tough, wont quit kind of kid. I "think" he will develop into a more polished passer as he matures. But he has a toughness that our offense can rally around. Now we need to start Bobo, Fields, and Spruce, as they are by far our best WR's. And we need to give Dunston a shot as well because McColloch and Goodson are not dependable when it counts. We can't afford to have dropped passes while our offense is fragile.

Also, I would like to see Munyer move to center, move Nembot to RG and Callahan to RT. I think that would give us our best 5. I think Nembot would excell at guard and I believe that is the position they will try him at in the NFL.

Back to the original point. Sefo is the guy Mac can build his team around for the next couple of years.
 
Yea I felt the same way watching him today. He just seemed off today. That being said though I think he is one of the best players on our team. He is consistent and has done a great job avoiding mistakes. I would actually like to see them open up his passes a little bit because I think he has the arm strength to make throws deep over the middle. Also to his credit there were a lot of drops today. (I'm actually thinking D.D. should get less looks. I know he's at least had three drops where he was wide open and they hit him in the hands)
 
Sefo is never going to look like a superstar QB, franchise guy. He isn't that type of player.

What he is though I believe is a guy you can win with. He makes plays, he doesn't get rattled much, he doesn't make a lot of the kind of plays that kill a team.

He missed some passes today and he looks terrible on the read option, that isn't his play.

On the other hand he was again under pressure frequently today. Our inability to generate a consistent running game left him in a lot of 2nd and 3rd and longs. He made some bad throws but more often catchable balls got dropped. DD dropped a couple, the pick was in Fields hands and he juggled it long enough to get it taken away. Even normally sure handed McCulloch had a flat out drop. We also had a number of clearly blown patterns with multiple receivers ending up in the same spots and looking at each other wondering what happened.

Impressive was his composure when we went down by 10. He didn't panic either giving up or trying to get it all back at once. Instead he led the offense, got a score, and went to the sideline to get ready to get the ball back.

We have a lot of problems but Sefo isn't one of them.

I agree. It seems like DD and McC just are not someone we want to go to right now. Drops, running wrong routes, and I cringe when the ball goes to them. I expect drops. Bobo, Shay and Spruce are where we need to be, and more down the field. Stop the tiny short throws to get Sefo's confidence up. Get his confidence up 10 and 15 yards down the field, preferably where the WRs are actually running DOWN the field!!!

I like DD. I really do. But tired of dropped balls all the time and killing drives. We can't afford to have drives killed this year. I liked the fire I saw from the team today but it only seemed to come in bursts. If the D puts pressure on and the offense opens up we can win a few more games. If they did that for the full 60 minutes then we could see a much different team. This team that sits back and lets the other team dictate the LOS and keeps doing plays that seem designed for one or two yards will be a team that won one game for the year. It's on the OC and DC still.

And as far as the Special Olympics Teams......good lord. WE are going to die a slow horrible death this year unless things get fixed in a big way, very quickly. That was ridiculous to see over and over and over. Fails at coverage in punting, fails at the kickoff in every way possible. I heard Benny Hill music on every special teams play and I wasn't laughing. I don't see any way possible that Neinas should be kept around. I thought that nobody ever ever ever would make me miss being 'clinic'd'. I was wrong.

And get Nembot over a spot and get Callahan in at RT. This is becoming borderline asinine. Just. Stop. I don't give a crap what he looks like in practice. He can't do the job in games.

Missed a couple. But he is a battler. More worried about OC than him. They both did pretty well for a bit in the 2nd. Let's see if team and sefo can continue to improve. Glad to get a win.

I had more options than I thought I did.

A couple of months ago when it was announced it looked like Dish wasn't going to have ESPN3. Then they came to an agreement and now I have it through them.

When I went into the site to connect today expecting to have to put in my dish credentials all the sudden it popped up on my internet provider with no need, turns out they have it too.

Plugged the HDMI cable in to my TV and had a good HD picture most of the day.
 
Definitely lucky to have him. Look around CFB. You can be great but without a QB you will lose to a much worse team (Ohio St, Texas etc)
 
I dunno, he blew quite a few throws today. Easy ones too. His throwing motion is so labored, I think it's hard for him replicate consistently. There were ducks flying out of his hand where nobody was around. I don't quite get it, he's a big kid, he shouldn't need to stride out 4 feet and shot-put the ball.

I appreciate that he's a gamer, and we could be in much worse shape, but okay to sub-par QB play is not what this team needs right now. Just sucks that we really don't really have better options behind him.

Yep. Props to the playmakers for putting 41 points on the board against a fairly evenly matched foe.
Sefo, Spruce and Fields were getting it done despite other glaring problems.

He missed some throws that were aggravating, no doubt. However, he wasn't getting any help from the receivers, either. He hit guys in the hands numerous times and they just plain didn't catch it - was a very frustrating game with both of these aspects going on. He should have easily had another 6-8 completions for another 80+ yards - easily. That alone would have made it a runaway game instead of a nail biter.

True. It also appeared that he could at least aim the ball towards one of our receivers under pressure unlike Cody Hawkins who would have to toss it to the sideline or directly throw an interception. Sefo is not a QB who is going to lose us games... but at this point, he's not going to win us games, either.

I disagree. His 70 yard TD pass to Spruce won the game yesterday. I hadn't seen much of Sefo turning a broken play into a big play, but he did it yesterday. He's also much better at running to pick up a first down when the receivers are covered or protection breaks down than he was last season. I know it was UMASS, but his play yesterday was a bit more than that of a game manager.
 
I think Sefo is good and would start for at least half the pac12 in 2015. I am even starting to think that he makes our oline look much much better than they are.

I agree, he needs to improve his accuracy a little bit...but it is pretty good already if you compare to other sophomore college QBs. He is 'a good looking kid' physically for his position. He seems like he is naturally risk adverse - but I'll gladly take the efficient and dependable passing game over, uhh, what we have had for the past couple of years.
 
Good enough for now. I wish we had someone better, a QB that could run. But he is what he is. Doubt he'll become honorable mention or higher in the pac12, but if he stays healthy and gels with the receiving corp he could become a top half pac12 QB.

Not impressed with his long throws. He is good in short to intermediate throws though.

Thought all his long throws this year have been pretty good
 
he's been really inconsistent with his short and medium accuracy in games. It's strange. That said, he made plays yesterday and often got no help from certain stone handed WR. I look forward to him smoothing out his performances.
 
If O line and OC can can continue to develop a little rhythm, his accuracy will improve. He does not look comfortable at times and I can hardly blame him. He has been decapitated a few times on whiff blocks by a couple of folks ahead of him. Let's see if offense can continue to jell as a unit. We had a couple of moments yesterday where they looked pretty good.

For team sake and ours keep improving fellas, natives are restless.....
 
We can nipped picked throws/drops and rightfully so, but no QB/WR is perfect. Wind was a factor to the kicking/passing game; but we score 41 pts like we should; the o-line/d-line need to step up to the run. Sefo now have 2,338 yds jumping from 20th to 14 places and 17 TD passes now 7th in ALL time in CU record books. ESPN stats sheet today showed he is 27 in passing leaders in the country. Last wk he was 56.

Hard to get excited by stats when we aren't winning but considering that he has less than a full season of starts on this team it is impressive.

Also shows exactly how few notable passing QBs CU has had in our long history for him to be that high on those list already.

Cody can keep his interception records but I'd like to see somebody not named Hawkins with a bunch of those records.
