Slick Rick gets his parting shot in at CU

In analyzing how recruiting looks for the Buffs and the rest of the PAC12, one thing that is obvious is that the firing of Slick Rick kept our class from being a bit better this year.

We had a perfect storm in play:

USC limited on scholarships
UCLA was a complete non-factor
UofA hiring an East Coast staff
ASU hiring a midwest/East coast staff with questionable credibility

If only Slick Rick would have been given another year!

By my off-the-cuff analysis, there would have been another 20 very good prospects out there that would have ended up in the PAC12. CU wouldn't have gotten but a couple of those perhaps, but their would have been a trickle down effect. Not sure UCLA staff can actually coach and keep it going for a few years, but for this year, they convinced a bunch of top rated kids to buy in. And that "bunch" was a lot larger bunch than they had scholarships becoming available.

Damn I hate Rick.

RichRod is best coach that was hired in the South. Graham and Mora don't scare me at all. Mora got some recruits too bad he can't coach. And Mazzone is his OC? Can't wait to see that

meh, I have nothing but good things to say about this years CU class regardless.

As far as next years play, USC will win the south hands down, there is nobody that can compete with them in '12.

As for 2nd I could see it being battled out between CU, UCLA and Utah.

ASU and Zona will be non-factors next year. Rich Rod may eventually be good for them, but I see no immediate impact.

I know Arizona's defense wasn't any good, but seeing how quickly RichRod ruined Michigan's D, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Arizona's D gets even worse now that RichRod is in Tucson.

MIchigan's program was in decline when Rich Rod took over. Plus the fans hated him and never wanted him as coach. Rich Rod was just a bad fit at Michigan.

Arizona will be better than UCLA next year.

Not trying to be a downer, but our defense needs to prove that they will not give up 45+ points to ASU, UCLA, and USC if we even want to be mentioned as a contender.

No doubt it was in decline, but he "burned it to the ground." Think of him as Michigan's version of DII.

Been saying the same thing. I think Rich Rod should do pretty well in Arizona with the moderate expectations, and the Pac12 is certainly a conference in which his offense can thrive. The main concern is that he has no connections to the state/region.

Well...except Michigan's recovery rate is exponentially faster, and have you seen their recruiting this year? Michigan could afford the pain from Rich Rod and had moved on, but we could not handle the damage from DooshBag Hawkins. So for the millionth time.....Danny, thanks for burning us to the ground.

I don't know about that. I do say that anybody except ASU can finish second. South will be bad again, and CU's schedule is better. It's gonna take Rich Rod some time, and as it's been said, he has never had good defenses.

Our schedule sets up nicer next year. I see a good chance to beat a lot of the teams that blew us out on the road last year (UCLA, ASU, Washington, Stanford). On the other hand I see some bad beatdowns to the hands of Oregon and USC. I think Zona will be tough for us to beat as well.

Huh, I said this last week.

We also will have a healthy secondary that has depth as well.

Agreed. Nothing we saw from this year would make you think this team will get more than 6 wins tops next year. I don't care what the schedule is. Winning 3 Pac 12 games will be hard enough.

Having an actual secondary and DL might help. I still don't know who would have had a respectable defense with who we had in our secondary, and apparently neither do you because you can't answer that.

My knowledge of football is much greater than you. And I don't count true freshman in late Jan that haven't shown up on the field yet in Boulder as "sure" things like you do.

Sure hell of a lot more "sure" things than DD Goodson and Jason Espinoza but what exactly are you implying here? That you're still unhappy with CB recruiting and there isn't a single player we have committed that won't have a big impact next year? And we won't just be relying on the freshman, there's Greg Henderson, Jared Bell, Sherrard Harrington (likely will be a S), and a few others who will be healthy and make an impact.

No, I'm implying that I like to wait and see who shows up on campus in the fall.

I'm fine with CB and DL recruiting as is.

I think we will see how much momentum will carry us into this season. There are a lot of variables for a decent season for CU

1. The road monkey off our back and a win going into the next season. Do you realize it has been 8 years since we have had a W going into a new season!!

2. A good recruiting class with some help in need positions. There are a few guys in this class who can help out our defensive woes immediatly.

3. OOC schedule, a huge break here, a good record going into conference play will help out.

4. The road monkey off our back. This had really gotten into the players heads, and now it's out, I expect more W's on the road.

5. A really soft south division. Other than USC, the south once again looks weak, if not weaker than last year. 3 out of the 6 schools are breaking in new coaches.

6. We seem to do better in rematch games after getting blown out (see Cal, I know it wasn't a W, but it should have been). A lot of our home games against teams that blew us out last year are very winnable.

7. A second year under Embree= more team gelling and team chemistry.

8. A healthier (fingers crossed) secondary with more talent.

9. A better QB prospect than what we have had in years!!!

10. We are flat out due!!! You can feel the momentum building and start to see light at the end of the tunnel. The dark end is near!!

Michigan went 11-2 this year basically from Rich Rod's players. IT was hardly burned to the ground.

Sorry that the irony was lost on you. Just as when DII said it, "burned to the ground" was far from being at rock bottom.

I never said that RichRod was a bad recruiter. I think he's just not a great game coach - one who ruins defensive football.

He reminds me of Ron Zook in a way. They're both great recruiters, but not the greatest game coaches. Zook just didn't handicap his defense like RichRod did.

Re: the OP, we would probably at least have gotten Powell, 'cuz Ricky probably wasn't going to offer.

Rick failing at UCLA is pretty much all i needed from the asshat. i would have liked him to hang around for a couple more 5 win seasons....but, can't have it all.
