At the beginning of the season we talked about how the pac-12 scheduling would set up nicely for us to upset a few people at home because they'd catch us on the back end of a road trip, with a short window to prepare, and at altitude for the second night in a row. After seeing just how bad the Utes are I can safely say it wont matter, anyone we would have considered an "upset" could beat the utes with the back half of their bench and me running the point.

There's always the difficulty of winter travel. :smile2:

That's exactly what Utah is counting on, they can surprise some people who are focusing only on CU..........

I hadn't seen Utah before the game the other day. I knew they were bad but had no idea how bad.

Does Utah win a game in the PAC12 this year? I bet they are wishing they still had a home game against Air Force.

their ineptitude definitely doesn't help CU, other than nearly guarantee another W. and now cedric martin the utes player with the 2nd most minutes is battling with plantar fasciitis, that will keep him out of some games this year, they can't catch a break.

i really don't know who utah beats in the p12, maybe ASU that can give a game to?

No. Their best shot is against Arizona State (currently 4-9) at home on Jan. 21, but it's not going to happen. As terrible as ASU has been this year, Utah takes it to a new level. Easily the worst power conference team of the past decade - it's nothing short of a miracle that they've managed to win 3 games this year, even if it does involve buzzer beaters over San Diego Christian College and the like..

Totally disagree with this. No one could beat Utah with you running point.

Rumblin asked a good question on twitter today:

Who wins between Utah and University of New Orleans?

New Orleans - Utah is rated 333 on kenpom.com and 336 on the basketball distribution's ratings. They are beyond terrible.

And my comment that they may be able to give ASU a game could be a Utah pipe dream, kenpom.com has ASU at 10 pt road fav and a 17 pt home fave against Utah.

On ESPN today:

Utah’s futile Pac-12 debut
Colorado defeated Utah 73-33 in the first Pac-12 game for both schools. It marked the fewest points allowed by Colorado since beating Kansas 42-30 in January 1949. Utah hasn’t had this low of a scoring total since 1980, and the Utes’ 22.8 field goal percentage was the fourth lowest in school history. The 40-point loss stands as the fourth worst in school history. Utah’s 11 first-half points are the fewest ever allowed by Colorado

with that being said, i'm curious as to who would win in a 3 way tournament, University of Utah, University of New Orleans or Cherry Creek High School......

Creek may be better than the others but would choke in the end. Winner, New Orleans.

Read this today, this is something out of a movie, open tryouts to the student body to add players for practice.

Anybody who has watched Utah play this season knows that Larry Krystkowiak needs new talent on that squad – and fast; what you may not have realized was just how quickly he needs the talent. With several Utes out with a variety of injuries, the team has been forced to use assistant coaches in their practices just so they can have enough bodies to go five-on-five. So, as a result, Krystkowiak is considering holding open tryouts among the student body to find some warm bodies with which to practice. And considering the depths to which this proud program has sunk, it is not out of the question that somebody could find themselves suiting up from that pool for a Pac-12 game in the near future.

Dear Lord. How does something like this happen at a D-1 program?

My question is, I know they don't have much talent, but why don't they run any sort of offense at all. That seems like coaching to me..

It keeps getting better - sports by brooks just had an article about this:

This comment by Larry Krystkowiak stood out to me:

“I’m not a big fan of the two-star, three-star, four-star kind of recruits,” Krystkowiak said late last week, “but I’m a big fan of character guys. We’ve got a group of guys who are high-character guys, hard-nosed players.”

Clearly the Utah coach is not a fan of winning...............

I'm surprised he didn't throw in a quote about working on the little things and just being a play or two away from making the tournament.

Seems odd because it sounds like he's got major issues with guys showing up to practice and has had to juggle his line-up because of it.

I'll bet they've all got firm handshakes and a twinkle in their eyes.....

Don't be dense. He's clearly talking about the students who tried out for the practice team.

He is??

“Practices have been going great,” Krystkowiak said, “with the exception we’ve had a lot of guys be late for things and not show up for things.”

“When you’re right around the corner from this Pac-12 thing cranking up and the inaugural season,” Krystkowiak said, “it’s pretty important. For me, all it is a statement from all of our players that other things are more important.”

Krystkowiak did not specify which players had been the problem. He simply said the Utes now have a “zero-tolerance” policy.

“If somebody’s late again, they won’t be in the lineup,” Krystkowiak said. “They won’t be on the team.”
