Let the best player win...Coach em up, and get the best line out there.
What I wonder about is why they have slotted Callahan at guard.
He was competitive at tackle at a program with much more OL talent than we have. My personal opinion is that our very best guard is Irwin who is out at LT.
If Callahan could step up at LT letting Irwin move inside I think he could be devastating leading the run game.
Of course this and all of what we put here is speculation. The coaches see practice every day which we don't.
In an ideal world, Callahan is LT and Irwin is LG, but with Irwin playing pretty well at LT last year, it would be a mistake to move him inside now.
Why do folks want to move Callahan outside and Irwin inside?
Irwin's twin brother is a good enough athlete to start at TE here. That suggests his athleticism. Also, Irwin did a good job at LT last season.
I think that this idea comes a lot from what positions these guys used to play. But neither were ever starters at their old positions under different coaches and systems. Seems like they're better suited to the new spots.
I'm also interested in who is going to be the next man up at LT. I think Irwin is pretty good and could be very good, but he seems to be injury prone. I'd like to see Josh Kaiser ready to go if Irwin (or Nembot) gets hurt, but like everyone is saying, let the competition sort it all out.
I think that would be Kronshage this year. He's the likely replacement for Nembot in 2016.
