Posted today, Nate is Rivals 1st team B12, and 2nd team All-American. Nice job Nate!!

I remember JE saying that people don't know about our Butkus winners, our Heisman, etc... I hope Nate can add the Outland to that list. That he's a finalist is just a huge accolade.

The Outland is announced tonight on ESPN
 
Not to be controversial, but does anybody else question why Nate gets so much love? No mistake he has the tools, but besides that he isnt a dominant lineman that he should be. Do people actually watch him play, or is he hyped because of the tangibles?

Well, the B12 coaches thought enough of his play to name him B12 OL of the year.

Rivals: "Solder, a huge guy with good feet, graded out at 94.9 percent for the season and allowed one sack and three quarterback pressures. He posted a team-high 10 blocks that led directly to touchdowns."

I hear what you're saying, but I think that's more of the OLine as a whole--that they didn't appear that physical, were inconsistent and shoddy at times over the last 4 years. But I'll still hold Hawk, Johnson, and Pittman most accountable for that.

I'll definitely agree that he's most hyped for his measurables. I still think the scouts drool over his frame and thinking what he'd be like with another 30-40 pounds.

For his size he can really move, and maybe in a zone blocking situation he could be more dominant, but his height actually worked against him at times when he was susceptible to a bull rush from a lower level. I wish him nothing but success, but am surprised he is an Outland finalist.

I agree. I'm glad Nate improved throughout the year and with different coaching I am sure he can improve much more in the pros. However, he got absolutely destroyed in the Cal game. He couldn't block anyone in that game.

I'm still giving Nate some serious props because he's a finalist from a 5-7 team. We still need all the nat'l attention we can get right now. Hopefully the staff uses Nate's status as a selling point to any of the OL recruits.

At Cal Nate, was struggling with the fast linebacker lined up at end. I cant remember his name, but he was speed rushing Nate to the QB all first half. Caused a fumble and an interception inside our 20.

The good news for Solder is that short and fast DEs are very rare in the NFL (Dumerville, that's about it). Good luck tonight Nate
 
So an Outland finalist, All American and 3 time All Big 12 player is someone we are going to bag on?

Sometimes we really do have a incredibly stupid fan base.
 
You can't coach height, you can't coach 315lbs with virtually no body fat, you can't coach long arms and quick feet, you can't coach tremendous balance, you can't coach motivation and a fast learner. Solder has all of these.

You can coach anticipation, knowledge of you opponent, and most of all technique. These are the areas that Solder is lacking and Denver Johnson didn't do him any favors in terms of addressing these.

The NFL looks at a guy like Solder who has all the talent in the world but needs some work and they look at a guy who has great technique but isn't ever going to be taller than 6'4" and is fat at 305lbs and the pick is no contest. They figure they can fix what Solder lacks, they can't fix what the other guy lacks.
