SPRING BALL: Originally scheduled to begin Feb. 15 and finish with the annual Spring Game on March 13, MacIntyre and his staff are considering changing those dates because of a variety of factors.

“It’s a combination of our new strength coach, the new hire we have yet to make and our staff wanting to feel like we’re completely ready to go for spring practice,” MacIntyre said. “We want to be ready and do what’s best for our team, and we’ll take all those factors into consideration.”

While the coaching staff has already finished a critique of last season, MacIntyre said the staff will go through the season again to help determine what areas they want to emphasize in the spring.

Injuries are also a factor.

“I’ve been meeting with the trainer and we’ve got some guys that are coming back off some different things,” MacIntyre said. “We want to figure out when the majority of those guys could maybe be back to practice, or at least be able to go out there and move around.”

Thus, the original Feb. 15 date may be changed. “It’s predicated on all those areas,” MacIntyre said. “We want to make sure we’re able to maximize the practices we have and make sure we’re ready.”

MacIntyre also noted that at least seven Buffs are definitely out for the spring because of injuries. The list includes OT Jeromy Irwin, LB Addison Gillam, QB Sefo Liufau, DL Terran Hasselbach, DL Blake Robbins, DL Tyler Hennington and LB Travis Talianko.

One thing that won’t change for spring ball is the availability of the Buffs’ new indoor practice facility adjacent to the Champions Center. The facility will be ready when the Buffs open spring practice.

the new hire being singular...........................................................................

I'm just going to assume that he's playing things very close to the vest. That will put off my pissedoffedness for at least an extra week.

Addison...again/still?
The indoor field is going to be great.

Noooooo !
I really like the combo of MMac and Leavitt. But if they are going be competitive they need all hands on board recruiting. We need to improve the staff wherever we can.

Start mixing the Kool Aid! How could you not want to come to CU and play for Chev/Leavitt?

“Recruiting needs to be taken to a different level – who we’re on, who we’re going after and who we’re getting,” Chiaverini said. “At the end of the day it’s who are you getting? You can say you’re recruiting so-and-so and so-and-so, but who’s actually putting their names on that NLI? That’s a big difference.”

California and Texas have long been must-stop destinations for CU recruiters, and Chiaverini wants to see more emphasis put on those fertile states. With the Champions Center up and running, he believes the Buffs’ selling points have soared.

“If you’re a recruit in California or Texas and come see this place, how can you say no?” he asked. “We have to recruit the same people that USC, Stanford, UCLA are recruiting, that Texas, Texas Tech, Baylor, TCU are recruiting. We can’t be afraid to go into people’s homes and show them the vision of Colorado football, the history of Colorado football and get them on campus. Once you get them here . . . I’ve worked at a lot of places and there’s nothing like this.”

Folks in AA call it denial...but what ever works for ya...drinking and denial have kept me a Buff fan these 10 years ;)

hireS? Do tell!
I meant, Leavitt, Wilson, Chiv and whoever the other new hire is going to be. Putting all this effort into hiring all these new coaches for 1 year and then firing the HC and starting from scratch? Something tells me this is truly a LONG term play with the staff.

You realize these guys you mention are not the ones with the most to lose on the staff... right?

I.... don't understand. This is a silly position to take.

You do realize that they will all be looking for work elsewhere after this season if the HC that hired them is fired and a new one is brought in.... right?

Not a certainty, but I will grant you it is likely. It does not change anything about my previous post.

Look, my stance once they hired Jim Leavitt as DC was always that MM would not be fired after 2015, regardless of record. With even more staff changes in key areas this offseason, my stance is beginning to be the same. I just don't see RG allowing MM to continue to slowly and incrementally upgrade his staff, with the vision that this is a one year proposition for them.

I speculated that MikMac would be gone after this year. I was wrong. I now think there is a real possibility RG is thinking like Marolt and is going to give MikMac a much bigger window than most of suspect. If RG was going to pull the trigger early and get "his guy" then the time to do it was November 2015. He didn't and barring a 3-9 or worse outing next year, MikMac is here for the long haul.

Yes. My thoughts.

I simply don't believe coaches of Leavitt and Chiv's caliber agree to come to CU without some sort of assurance that they will be given the necessary time to see their jobs through.

So every time staff changes are made, it means the head coach is granted more job security? That is an interesting hypothesis.

Again, the coaches being brought in have been around the block. They know the deal and are gambling on it working out in 2016. They also know they will have options should it not work out at CU. The coaches with the most to lose are the guys who came with MacIntyre originally.
