Stanford Game The Difference Between A Great or Magical Season

Win Saturday at Stanford and our Buffs will have 3 out of 4 at home with a bye week to heal any ailments.
CU would be 6-2 (bowl eligible !!) with legitimate chances to win the South and go to the Pac 12 Championship game. Can you imagine 10-2 ?? truly magical ... one of the top 6-7 seasons in the history of CU football.
Momentum is an amazing thing.

Lose Saturday and CU still gets that bye but has that elusive 1 win to a bowl so close but yet so far away.
I still think UCLA is toast on Thursday the 3rd as Folsom will be as close to a sell out as we have seen since the Corn came to Boulder but at this point momentum may have been derailed just a bit. Lose against Furd and I see CU ending up 8-4 and truly great season.

A win against the Trees sets up November to be truly special. I am trying my best to not look ahead, and just focus on this Stanford game, but... its really tough especially as we inch closer and closer to post seaosn eligibility.

I actually think this may have set up well for the Buffs with getting Stanford now with their current record. I don't think I'd want to be the team that is standing in the way between this Buffs team and bowl eligibility.

Stanford is a recurring theme in MacIntyre's career storyline.

When coaching at SJSU, MacIntyre's greatest accomplishment was almost beating Stanford and finishing the season ranked in the top 25. This is the storyline and resume that brought MacIntyre to Boulder as a turn-around specialist.

In order for MacIntyre to set a new personal best, it starts with actually beating Stanford and finishing this season with a Pac-12 South title, or better.

Since MacIntyre (and Leveatt) lived in the Bay Area prior to moving to Boulder, this game is personal. Win to show growth and to improve upon his legacy.

and get Stanford when they are full of doubt.

I hope McCaffrey doesn't play again, but I actually think we can contain him this year.

+ I feel he has better athletes on the CU roster vs sjsu roster to now get over the stanford hump.

WSU looks strong. It's crazy to me that they lost to Eastern Washington. Clearly they've got it turned around since then.
IMO, WSU came back down to earth a little bit after playing UCLA. They are still a good team but not as scary as initially thought. Still very happy to have them at home.

Really glad this game is a potential bowl game clincher for us - I think that will give us some extra juju going into the game (not that we've been lacking for motivation or effort yet this season).

From Ted Miller, ESPN:

Most notable is Colorado's climb out of the basement, as Utah has been delivering busted lips for a couple of seasons now. The Buffaloes won five conference games over the previous five years, but they will go for No. 4 this season at Stanford on Saturday.

Think of your preseason self. Did it occur to you that the Buffs' visit to The Farm would be a big game, with the visitors in far better shape in the conference race? Colorado hasn't beaten Stanford since 1990 and its three previous Pac-12 games against the Cardinal were decided by 32, 48 and 41 points. After manhandling Arizona State 40-16, the Buffs officially were upgraded from "neat story" to "contenders," and they are settling old scores.

The program had never beaten the Sun Devils, and the average margin of defeat in the previous seven games in the series was 26.4 points, with Colorado never getting closer than 14. On Saturday, the Buffs outgained the Sun Devils 580 yards to 199 and rushed for 315 yards, beating a ranked team for the first time since 2009.

"They kicked our tail," Arizona State coach Todd Graham said.

I agree that this will make or break the season as far as greatness goes.

I see Stanford as totally mortal, and the Buffs are going to take it to them all day long.
Forget statement game....THIS IS A STATEMENT YEAR!!!

I think our toughest challenges here on out will be WSU and Utah, but we get BOTH at home!

I'm really not that worried about Utah, especially with this class on senior day.
I can agree with Wazzu, they have me worried

I really want to see how we do on OL and DL after what happened at USC. We should know before the 1st quarter is out if it is a dog fight, we are controlling the lines, or they are controlling the lines.

I agree. I'm pretty concerned about the trenches in this one. Stanford has some athletes up front on their DL. The OL doesn't look as imposing and I have confidence in our DL. Our DL played decently against USC.

So glad I picked the Stanford game as my roadie this year. Was told I was crazy to pick a sure lose to go and see. This is the game that will set up Nov as a month to remember! Go Buffs!

The Bay Area is certainly buzzing about this game. There will be a ton of CU fans there. You picked a good one for sure.

I figure theBuffs can lose one more game (against anyone except Utah) and still win the South, if USC loses one more conference game. Agreed?

Stanford will be insanely tough. CU really showed up and beat down pretty hard on some good athletes against ASU. But, Michigan and USC both pushed us around up front or flat out had more talent/depth for us to take it to them for 60 minutes. USC was more of an anomaly, Michigan is better and CU played LOADS better offensively there. Won't throw any hate towards Montez but even Oregon was able to find out that if you take his slant routes away you slow him way down.

Thankfully, we have Sefo!! We've got a shot and I wouldn't have said that over the summer.

I have an idea!!

I think you are right about that. USC should beat Cal and Oregon at home, should lose to UW on the road, and then has their rivalry game against UCLA in the Rose Bowl. USC is the better team, but that game could go either way because of the rivalry aspect.

UW is our biggest ally at this point in the season, because they can't hurt us head to head in the regular season, but they can definitely help us by taking out Utah in SLC on 10/29, USC in Seattle on 11/12, and ASU in Seattle on 11/19. And even though it doesn't impact CU one way or the other in terms of winning the South, they can put a beating on Davis Webb and Cal on Nov. 5 just for the enjoyment of Buff fans.

I forgot that the Huskies are going into Utah. A Washington win would there would help. Buffs have a decent margin to lose one more game and still have a good shot at winning the South.

Perhaps. But even a loss at Stanford gives the Buffs a great chance in the South if they win out after that, and 10 wins is doable via a bowl game (or P12CG upset if they made it).

That said, let's beat these guys. Like ASU was due, Stanford is also due for the Buffs putting an "L" on their record.
