Statement game by the defense

Gilliam looked like he was shot out of a cannon all night. Gilbert looked like he was lined up offsides the first two plays of the game but this was a precursor to how he played tonight. He was 2 steps ahead of any Oline who tried to block him. The DB's are really impressive and continue to shine. Leavitt is just a stud. The whole D is clicking and we're gonna take it to Furd next week.

CU dominated. Also true is ASU offense not nearly as good as hyped. In early season they put up big points against abysmal defenses. On PAC play they look middling. The South's good defenses effectively shut them out. 3 points against CU (taking away CU's self-inflicted wounds) and 6 points against SC (excepting garbage time points). UCLA kept them in the 20s even with an offense that killed their TOP.

Even ASU fans are saying on boards what a lie it is that Wilkins mobility issues were what held their O back; Manny Wilkins was plenty mobile and was a good pocket passer against their weak opponents in their OOC.

During MM's press conference, somebody asked what his heated discussion with JMFL was about. Hope they're both all good, and that it was just a minor spat.

Or PAC12 officiating is as bad as we perceive it to be
Yep. Although, I think the officiating was pretty decent last night. They let them play on the outside, for the most part. And I was impressed that they didn't flag a couple of those hits on Wilkins, just from a 'oh my God, he got blowed up real good!" reaction.

I agree, I thought at least one of those legal hits would have received a flag, just because of the viciousness of the tackle. We did get a couple of breaks though. I thought the pass break up early in the game was a clear interference on CU's secondary but went uncalled. That would have extended one of their early series.

Wilkens had none of the mobility that he had going into the USC game. USC is the most dominant team on both lines in the South. ASU has been living a lie as Texas Tech and Cal are two of the worse defensive teams in D1 football. Add in those wins at UTSA and against NAU. And UCLA is just not that good.

Wilkens is not a good pocket passer like Rosen or Browning. But with his elusiveness that he had early in the season, he presents some problems for defenses. His injury has made him a sitting duck. Their RBs are really good, but not so good at making their own holes. We took away that part of their game and forced them to beat us with Wilken's arm. Not going to happen. 1.8 yard rushing (net after sacks).

With that said, their run defense is supposed to be pretty stout and their passing defense not so much. Some of that comes from playing Cal and TTU early. But CU ran it down their throat. 315 yards rushing.
