Andy Katz's early top-25 for next season. I wouldn't have expected to be on that list but he has a seperate group below that of 21 teams "not to sleep on" and we're not on that either.

Joe Lunardi's early tournament predicitons. He doesn't have us in the field nor does he have us as one of the first 8 out.

I'm not saying that people should be picking us to be national champions but last year we did win our conference, we did win 24 games, we did finish as one of the final 32 teams in the country, and I think that next year's team is better then last year's team. To not even be a legit bubble team according to Lunardi or a top-46 team according to Katz is erroneous.

Im glad we arent respected. Coach needs as much motivation as he can get until he has put all the pieces together to turn us into a super power. Until we can survive on coaching and sheer talent alone, we have to rely on motivation and emotion in addition to coaching and talent.

There is no denying that we lose a lot next year. We'll need to prove it again.

Dufault averaged 10 PPG and Carlon Brown averaged 12 PPG. I hardly think that qualifies as us losing "a lot" especially compared to what we lost the year before. Scott and XJ should match if not exceed their point production even as freshman and will make an even bigger impact on the glass and on the defensive end. Plus we can expect marked improvement from Dinwiddie, Booker, Roberson, Tunks, and Adams and possible additional contributions from the other freshman.

It's gonna take some time, Im excited about next year though. The guys left over from last year are gonna have to carry the load while the young guys get their feet wet. As far as how much losing Carlon and Austin will hurt, well, they'll be missed for sure. Austin was consistent throughout the year, real solid. We will miss the Carlon we saw in the Pac tourney and Ncaa, guy was a completely different player then than at many times during the year.

Also, our competition will be better next year. The Pac will undoubtedly be much better than it was this year.

I kinda like this. 2 years in a row, the Buffs weren't expected to do anything. 2 years in a row, we have mattered.

Eventually, I'd like to see CU be the team that nobody wants to play. For now -- these low expectations are a plus.

We lose a lot, we gain a lot. Interesting argument about how much respect we should have going into the year vs. how much respect we need to earn going into the year.

It's hard to get worked up about this kind of column (remember the difference between a column and a news article, one is simply opinion the other is supposed to be reporting facts.) I like Katz's work but this time of year these things tend to be a product of "I have to have a column done by tommorow at noon and nothing is happening, let's speculate a bit."

When you are pulling names of teams out of the air to be successful the next year CU isn't one that readily comes to mind. Keep in mind the stellar history of the program in the years prior to Tad.

Overall probably a good thing that we aren't on the list, let us sneak up on people again but overall it doesn't really matter much at this point.

we lose the number 3, 4 and 5 player in terms of adjusted win share. We don't lose as much as we did after Higgins and Burks left, but we still lose quite a bit. And why can we expect such marked improvements from Dinwiddie, Booker, Roberson, Tunks, and Adams? Just want to take your role for a moment, please explain.

I think what we lose the most is leadership. No one coming back has that experience and vocal leadership yet. Tomlinson, Dufault, and Brown were the heart and soul of the team last year

yes, but early on Spencer AND ski showed signs of vocal leadership before the seniors stepped into the role. Between the mayor's excellent twitter fight with Burks and the ice he obviously has in his veins (he was like, BAD ASS in the pac 12 championship game), I have no doubt that these guys have the confidence to speak their minds and lead this team.

Plus, even if Dre isn't a vocal leader, his support will go a long way towards solidifying their leadership.

Leadership is not my concern. I will give you that maybe it was Nate calling the team out and Carlon's vocal leadership in the P12 tourney that got them going at the end, but it was The Mayor who was the vocal leader of the team for 95% of the season. With a year under his belt, I really expect him to step fully into the leadership role.

Seniors aren't going to let freshmen lead them. There was a void last season until those guys stepped up.

Spencer will step into the role next year. People will listed to a sophomore PG who started every game as a freshman.

I also think that Shane will provide good leadership for our young bigs. He's a passionate, team-oriented guy who works extremely hard. Good role model.

So... you are saying he is a valuable member of the pack?

Well if he's not, then I am.

Buffs will have to string more than 2 successful seasons together for the national press to notice. We shouldn't forget the past 2 seasons the Buffs were NIT bound before the conference tourney started.

The Buffs did enter our conference tourney as a 6 seed. It was an incredibly weak conference last year. I was as thrilled as anyone about what last season's team accomplished, but I would say that putting them in a preseason top 50 is still premature. Count me as one that would much rather see the Buffs exceed expectations for each of the next five years than be a national story, highly touted, and then have a terrible season; losing momentum and the respect of potential recruits.

Quit ****ing whining. We win one NCAA tournament game for the 1st time in 15 some years and you expect Katz to put us in the Top 25 after we lost two important parts of our team? Team finished 6th last year in a weak conference. Granted they got hot and won Pac 12 tourney and upset UNLV in tourney but during the year they weren't some dominant team in conference and out of conference. I like how the program is going and what Tad is building but just stop with the ****ing self pity BS. Get over yourself.

So still making the tournament after losing two NBA players and beating UNLV and running with Bailor until the last five minutes means we shouldn't get a sliver of respect to go with our great class coming in an Dre coming back?

We are getting some respect. But to expect to be in the top 25 is asinine. We lost in the second round of the tournament. So did a lot of other teams.

Lord help us, I agree with Jimmy.

The Pac will be a little better, but make no mistake, it's still going to be pretty darn weak this upcoming season.

Funny that Lunardi has Cal in the Dance. Way off on that one, IMO.

Out of about 350 Division 1 basketball programs, I'm fine with being slated for top 75 preseason. Great post, Jimmy.

I don't understand the love for Oregon or Cal in some of the early projections. Neither team was all that good last year and I'd expect both to take a step back.

I wish ignoring people in real life was this easy.....

Yup jimmy is right on the money, CU obviously out performed expectations and got hot at the end of the season but losing 3 starters from that team (even with the incoming class) is no reason for national media members or us to think they are automatically a perennial tourney team.
