Student Support of Football at CU

Where do you feel the support of the students are for CU Football

I work with a person that is a old hippie from back in the day, he roamed around the country in a VW bus going from concert to concert, worked on his unofficial pharmacology degree... He ended up in Boulder and enrolled in the engineering department for a couple years and then went to the CO School of mines. We talk football all the time and I asked him today why he is not a CU fan? His response to me was " I did not care about football or even knew that they had a team back then".

This got me thinking about how the students feel today at CU, are they getting to the point that football is not a big deal?

Football is just an excuse to kill time and socialize for a hour and a half now with basketball being king and exciting the students.

So CU is the "Duke" of the Rockies? Basketball will pay the athletic bills and football is now secondary? Is this what CU is now?

60% are the geeky/nerdy types that could care less about sports in general. Of the 40% that do, maybe 5% actually know anything about CU football. 10% only like pro sports (Broncos, Packers, Giants). The last 25% are indifferent but could be swayed by a winner (see basketball)

This poll came about from a conversation I had with a person that was a student at CU many years ago, and is a fan of college football in general now, I was interested if the same apathy he had back then as a student is what the students have today, or do they want the program to return.

Basketball is such a fickle sport that CU better enjoy it now!! There are very few programs that can claim any amount of success over a long period of time and have that program be the "Cash Cow" of the athletic program.

The students are as smart as everybody else about CU Football. If the team sucks and not being given a chance to improve by the administration, the students will not waste their time either. CU students in general love to support a solid sports program, just see the amazing support for the basketball team.

Interesting way of saying that Football will never be relevant. So why bother?
 
Student support dwindles each year as I don't recall seeing the student section completely full 1 time all season and it is nearly empty by halftime after we're already getting whooped......I'm expecting about 30-40% full this weekend and that's where I'd put the student support at

Basketball on the other hand is a whole different animal....but obviously it's all about winning and if I were back in college and had all the other options available to me including watching our football team get obliterated for the 10th time in a row, I'm sure I'd probably be elsewhere as well

So it bothers you that CU is having success in BBall.
 
So can we assume everyone who voted for "Nebraska Sucks" was not only making the obvious statement, but siding with the Less than 40% crowd?

Kansas does it. Why not CU? We have the coach - just need to feed him, pay him, and keep him around. Basketball can pay bills, but not Husker basketball, because it sucks.
