I'm sitting on my deck just outside of Atlanta. I've had a couple of beers and am thinking about my long relationship with CU Athletics. I've not reached the "I wish I could quit you" phase, but it's crossed my mind.
Is RG channeling his MLB days and running CU football the way the Monforts run The Rockies? As long as you get the TV money and get x thousand in the stands every home game, why invest another dollar into the product? The big issue is that The Rockies aren't getting kicked out of major league baseball. The Buffs may be getting kicked out of major college football.
Who at CU is still operating under the delusion that CU is an "elite" academic institution? Get real and cut some of the academic restrictions.
I've been in GA for 10 years. When I moved to the ATL I kept my season tickets. I love my seats and wanted them to be there when I moved back to Colorado. (I can get to a bathroom and back during a long time out and not miss a play) I go back for several games a year. In the 10 years I've been away the guy next to me bought all games I didn't use. He didn't buy a game this year - said he couldn't justify it. I've tried to give them away. It's been hard. I had to beg friends back in Colorado to take free tickets.
CU can't hire another retread head coach . Their best hope is to look for a young, aggressive P5 coordinator or a lower tier head coach. Chances are another failure. But at some point they'll get lucky and hit pay dirt. Maybe they can keep someone like that for a few years and perhaps reestablish a reputation as a place where you can win.
