1. Compared to where you were in December, are you feeling more, less or about the same level of confidence about the 2013 season?


2. Compared to where you were when Mike MacIntyre was hired, are you feeling more, less or about the same level of confidence for the longer-term prospects of the football program?


3. Compared to where you were when Mike Bohn was fired, are you feeling more, less or about the same level of confidence for the future of the Athletic Department & facilities projects with Rick George taking over next month?


4. Compared to... hell, any time in the past 10 years, are you feeling more, less or about the same level of confidence in the CU administration to support athletics so that fans of CU football and other sports will be celebrating championships?


On all of these, I've got to say, I'm confident for the first time in a long time and am actually excited. Being a CU fan is becoming fun again.
 
Of course I am one of the optimists on AB, but:

Overall, Nik, totally agree with you. The AD has put real $ into our coaching staff, Bohn hired an up and coming coach with real experience including as a HC turning around a terrible program, and they put real $ into hiring a replacement for Bohn who, on paper, seems to be a home run hire to head up athletics.
 
1. More, but that is assuming no further attrition (Gerald Thomas) or injuries (Wood, or anyone on the offensive line).

2. More confidence because of the AD situation and the assumed positive impact it will have on our facilities situation (-> recruiting). Never before has the success of the coach been more dependent on the success of the AD.

4. Same. The administration tends to make (at least) two poor decisions for every good one, but I am gaining confidence in Benson's agenda, and Rick George has me a believer.

I've been saying this for a few years, but we are due for some good fortune. We have been in a quagmire that is/was the result of our own ineptness and the perfect storm of some variables out of our control. The best thing for the program would be a 3-0 start; the level of excitement would be higher than at any point since the "scandal." I believe that the Fresno St. game is the most important on the schedule; we will see how much we have improved psychologically after being completely humiliated and defeated last season to a team we should stack up to. The psychology of this team, which has been in shambles since Hawkins' honeymoon wore off, will dictate it's success.
 
More across the board, with the caveat that I'm picking the point of absolute zero and comparing it to now. We knew what we had with Bohn, but I *think* we may have something special with George. Time will tell, but there's something about this guy that makes me think he may be the guy we need to get us back to where we all want to be. Same with MM. I didn't know much about him when he was first hired, but the more I see him, hear him, and watch him, the more I believe he also has what it takes to get us back to where we want to be. As for DiStefano - I couldn't have been more disgusted with him than I was two weeks ago. Now, I'm somewhat ambivalent towards him. That's an improvement, for what it's worth. I do think Benson has seen the light, which is encouraging.

2) The same. With 8 months of recruiting for judgment there has been good strategy and scouting but sub par results.

3) The same. Good AD hire but DiStephano is still here.

4) More. Benson actually seems interested in the success of the football program.

Compared to where you were when Mike MacIntyre was hired, are you feeling more, less or about the same level of confidence for the longer-term prospects of the football program? -jury is still out. he's not coached a game here yet. so, the same. i'm not super-thrilled with recruiting (and yes, i understand where we are nationally). but, the staff seems like they have a plan. so that is a start.


3. Compared to where you were when Mike Bohn was fired, are you feeling more, less or about the same level of confidence for the future of the Athletic Department & facilities projects with Rick George taking over next month? -more. i think the hire shows a commitment and i think George knows how to get stuff done. the key will be whether the university leadership turns him loose. if he has to play by the same bs rules as the last guy, then nothing will change.


4. Compared to... hell, any time in the past 10 years, are you feeling more, less or about the same level of confidence in the CU administration to support athletics so that fans of CU football and other sports will be celebrating championships? --about the same. i feel like the only way we'll get over, absent a sustained cross-university effort, is if we get really lucky and get a magical coach in (boyle) or maybe a super star player than can single-handedly get us going (e.g. johnny football). i want to believe and i like the steps they have taken to lock up tad and lappe, and to bring in a new ad. pay is looking good so we can attract good talent. so, they've done some good stuff. still, i'm in wait and see mode. we need to see continuing progress.
 
Overall, I can't see why one would not have some positive vibes for the future. I feel a lot better than I did a year ago. However its all just talk and speculation at this point.

We should revisit this in November. If its another dog **** season on the field with no measurable improvement and no progress on facilities then I think we will know what we have.

I'm continuing to hold to my pledge to reserve judgement until I actually see the product on the field. The coaching may or may not inspire me. It's too early to change my view that there is a talent deficit.

He earns my respect by how he performs in Boulder. As most safe harbor statements say, past performance is no guarantee of future results.

Plus I would NEVER allow my daughter attend Baylor. What other lapses in judgement will come out?

Too early to tell. I'm still disappointed by the decade long decline of my beloved football program while under the watch of DiStephano and Benson. Those two are taking steps to atone for their neglect. They can't just drop several million on salaries, delegate to the new guy and think were are now all good. You can't just paper over their sins of prolonged habitual indifference.

Maybe they turned over a new leaf. Maybe this entire leadership chain from president to the strength and conditioning coach is gone in the next 5 years.

Well, the football season will be over and we will know if we have a coach that can improve the program. I am not expecting 8 wins. I am just expecting to see a much better product on the field. By November we should know quite a bit.

As with facilities, I am not expecting a ground breaking on improvements. I am expecting noticeable advancement towards the fund raising and ground breaking for the new facilities.

I don't find that unreasonable.
 
You don't have to wait till November. We suck. :lol: We're probably going to suck next year too. :smile2:

MM needs a lot more time than one season.

4dem is giving him time, but he needs to show quantitative improvement in the W/L column this fall, and that's not unreasonable to ask of him.
 
More across the board, but that's really more indicative of the hope I have before each new season. If we get through september and look like dog **** then I'll be back to pessimism.

It's hard for me to define 5-year success. I can define 1-year success based on where the team was last year and what we lost/gained from the roster. Competitive football and more than 3 wins would be a successful 2013, imo.

Assuming that happens, I would define 2014 success as a bowl game.

I don't know if you can look much farther and hope for linear improvement. But within 5 years, I expect CU to be back to its historical average of winning 70% of its games while also being close to completing Phase I of the facilities project.

You can see the change in attitude from the admin by the money they are putting out there recently. We will see where it goes but it's a solid start.

1. More - I've been impressed by MikeMac so far and I think that will translate well on the field this year, relatively speaking (win 4-5 games and stay competitive in the others and I would be thrilled)

3. Same - While I respect Rick George's credentials and experience, I need to see how he functions and what changes he makes in the AD as he starts his tenure before I can upgrade this to a "more"...just too soon to call for me...

4. Same - The next year or so will be critical for the CU AD - we'll get a much better idea of the direction football is going, expectations for basketball are beginning to go through the roof, and we'll see if Rick George has some freedom to get stuff done in overhauling the AD and fundraising or if he is merely a puppet/"yes" man to Dr. Phil...I sincerely hope that 12 months from now, next summer, I can upgrade this to a "more"...
