TE situation

Brady Russell has been amazing, and unexpectedly so. Can anyone imagine our situation if that kid doesn’t ball out and earn a scholly?

Also, anyone notice Russell was the ONLY TE to play in the game? I think that’s right. I have heard a completely unconfirmed rumor which I will not pass along.

How do we have no TE’s beyond Russell?

Of course, this loss is about more that an OL that is unable to block the worst team in the league. I knew we had real problems when I saw all the completely missed stunts against Wash, when the line was on its 7th game into a season.

I’ve been a huge MM guy. I’m moving quickly away. This was devastating.

If I was a TE, no way in hell I would go to this offense or coaching tree. The coaches have shown zero ability to develop or get production out of the position. It’s been completely disregarded.

What’s the deal with Jones? That guy is a physical specimen. Can they really not coach him up to make a few plays a game?

Amazing is kind of an overstatement.
Sure. I didn’t mean he is Daniel Graham at this point or anything. Just that, as a preferred walk-on, to get to starting TE on scholarship as red-shirt Freshman, and handle his responsibilities really solidly, is pretty amazing. And he had been one of the few bright spots in the blocking scheme: watch many of our long runs and Russell has sealed his block, which opens the run to the next level.

But where are all the scholarship TEs in this program? Sure we lost Pop to an injury. But how are we this low on servicable bodies who can support even a goal line heavy formation?

Jones played on several downs inside the 10. Bounds was the one that was missing. Don't know if he was hurt or what. The was a couple of times that the center of the field was vacated and we didn't have a TE or even a WR in the seam. So disappointed with the offensive scheme.

Truly. This is not even Texas Tech style. They run intricate ten yard routes for easy completions. We throw nothing but outs and flag routes. Where is the seam or post route? Hey a slant? I think we completed one maybe two.

Russell was actually quite poor in the game. We really missed Bounds' blocking

Where is Bounds? He certainly was productive enough last year. He did score a few TD’s too.

With it reported publicly now that Bounds is on a leave of absence for personal reasons, I think you can say what the rumor was.

We have tight ends?

He is stiff. Can’t flip hips. Has trouble catching any ball not thrown directly at him, especially the low ball. That was what I saw this spring and this fall.

“Personal reasons” seems to be standard privacy protection, coach-speak. And I suppose that’s how it has to be; it is not a big deal.

Having a bit of a window behind the scenes of the football team (for the first time), I’ve been struck by how little gets specifically reported and how tightly controlled the flow of information is. Even the reporters working the Buff beat have a vested interest in access and mitigate their stories to ensure ongoing access (however limited). All of which is nothing new, of course. I’ve just never been privy in any way to what has been specifically omitted before. (As a result, I have tried to be careful in my discussion of that information, while trying to place a marker for reference to the information to come.)

After watching the reaction to my post, and the manner by which my decidedly cryptic assertion of an unconfirmed rumor was set upon as childish and self-important (perhaps it was both), I can understand, to some degree, the desire to protect information itself.

My point was, assuming nothing but what is now publicly known, the team has glaring holes which seem not just to be due to injuries or recruiting: the starting TE decides, in the middle of the week, in the middle of the season, while preparing for the homecoming game which could ensure a rare bowl bid for all of his friends and team mates, to walk out on his team.

Perhaps my take is colored somewhat by the account I’ve heard which has not been fully reported or corroborated (and which may not be perfectly accurate). To that extent, my view of the context - or even the arguable existence of context - is clearly skewed. Maybe there is a completely different explanation.

I mistook discussion on here as just that. I’ll endeavor to keep further information to myself and just sit on my hands as best I can.

All in all, I am concerned for the state of the one sports team I enjoy following.

My apologies if I got out over my skies on my foray into this message board. I was venting my frustration at what looked like a great season gone rapidly south, and let my lips flap indelicately.

The best Tight End on this team is Nate Landman! His hands are fantastic due to his family rugby background. Can’t afford an injury, but pretty sure he could dominate at TE!

You're 22 posts in, you'll figure it out.

Best advice is to fully participate, but don't "drop hints" as to having inside knowledge unless you're fully prepared to share it.

At least for a while. We have several posters who have various portals through which they get information: observe how they do it for a while, and you'll catch on.

Also: the membership to the site is worth it; it's only $20 a year to help keep the lights on, and it gets you to the "members only" forum where things get posted that aren't meant for "search engine indexed" levels of public consumption.
