We have so many guys playing big roles who weren't here in 2016 or even 2017. So many guys who, if they were here last season, played a small role or a different role.

Those guys are starting to come into their own.

The big one that jumped out at me last night was the base OLB duo of Lewis and Taylor. Lewis looks like he's starting to figure out the new position. He's starting to make plays and bring the pass rush heat. Taylor is also figuring things out, allowing him to play fast.

Those are 2 athletic freaks at OLB who can put so much pressure on a QB.

Changes our entire defense if those guys keep progressing. There are few NFL teams, let along college teams, that have 2 OLBs with that much speed and athleticism.

I'm going to stop here, rather than go into detail because this post would turn into a book. But there's a laundry list of guys who are new to the program or in significantly expanded roles who are starting to take their games up a notch. This team is getting better and better.

One other thing I saw last night was a huge progression from Montez. He's now reading the defense pre-snap. There was one play that had me stunned where he actually checked to a run play because the numbers were there. He didn't used to do that. He also made some great reads on some option plays. And there were at least 2 cases where he had a free play due to UCLA offsides and he took deep shots. His awareness IQ has gone up several levels from where he was last season. Most impressed I've ever been with Montez. He's in total command of this offense right now.

This is what seriously studying the film with your coaches will do for you. You can see the patterns of the game pre-snap and react with anticipation because you’ve internalized your teammates’ and opponents’ behavioral patterns.

Agreed, but I'd like to see Montez run more plays under center instead of being in a shotgun stance most of the time.

This. I was impressed with his poise and confidence when he was interviewed on the sideline after the game. He seems far more polished and sounded like a leader.

Helps to keep the defense guessing a little more by changing things up at the line of scrimmage. NFL scouts want to see QBs that can be successful in both formations.
I wouldn’t count on it. Offense is why it is and college is 95(?)% shotgun based offense now and the nfl is adjusting accordingly. I think I saw that something like ~75% of NFL snaps are taken in shotgun now.

I like the Lewis / Taylor duo much better than the Callier / Wells duo.

Did Jaylon Jackson get any snaps last night? I didn’t notice him out there.

Also, I would have liked to have seen more of Kabion Ento in the WR rotation.

I talked to a kid that played for CU 2012-2015 and left before graduating. He did NOT like the locker room. THis doesn't seem to be problem for this group. Yes winning cures all ills, but seeing this kind of reaction does encourage one to think team unity is not an issue for this group.

BTW, was that some type of Irish tune playing? If so that makes this even better!

Just a really fun and likable team. I think we all know there are some flaws, but dammit, they played extremely hard and found ways to gut out 2 wins in games that could have easily gotten away from us. Much respect.

Hahaha that’s ****ing awesome! Mac you son of a bitch, you did it! He talked about it and he worked on it in the offseason. This team has great chemistry and they seem to (obviously) get along well.

Edit: @WarBuff it sounds Irish to me lol. Just a sample used on a track but still has an Irish feel!

It's hard when you have players recruited by 3 different coaching staffs. Culturally, it's inevitable that they don't fit together since it had been a different type of pitch and culture that appealed to them enough to sign. Beyond schemes maybe not fitting and roles maybe not ending up as promised with all that coaching turnover, at the base level we simply had 3 groups in 1 locker room that each had different priorities and psychological profiles.
