Texas Longhorns and CU coaching search overlap

Andersen would be a great get. It may have already been posted somewhere here in the endless sea of threads, but I think his son is a sophmore on the current Utah State team. Might make it harder to get him for the time being.

Good point, but it's also possible that he might like someone else to coach his son. It can be an awkward dynamic, obviously.

I'll bet we lose, if we go head-to-head for one in particular.

The 90s made a lot more sense to me.

No, just wishful thinking from the fan base.

Yep. The Embree crowd that has stopped by to tell us that we're assholes should really visit Shaggy and see how those fans deal with coaches they don't like and those who challenge their collective opinions.

Clap:clap:clap:

I may be losing my judgement on this stuff (I thought Hawkins was a good hire ) But I like the Utah coach too. The Northern Illinois guy also looks good...but he took over a good program. I like that the Utah coach didn't. That's more representative of what he'd be dealing with here.

Obviously though, not only may he already be happy where he is, but we aren't the only school looking for young coaching talent. I'd hate for this to be like a coaching version of a game of musical chairs and we are the one left standing without a chair when everything settles.

I don't think he can survive a loss to KSU after getting beat by TCU last week and shredded by Oklahoma this year.

Dead man walking. The big donors / good ole boys club have stopped talking to him. He will 'retire' after the KSU game.

KSU -10

As a Horn fan, I would advise taking KSU minus the points if you're the betting type. KSU absolutely owns UT for some reason. Kind of like UT absolutely owns the Huskers. I don't know why or how these things happen.

Exactly. Horns fans are resigned to losing to KSU annually (regardless of the quality of the KSU team that particular year). Has UT even beaten this millenium?

Both of those phenomena that you reference make me very happy, by the way.

I think there is a fair chance Mack is gone...

There is a real risk with firing a guy that gets 8 wins and replacing him with a guy that can only get 7 wins. Or worse.

I can tell you from coaching youth soccer, where the kids dont yet have an attitude, that you still depend on them to do what there supposed to. I.e. not make mistakes and anticipate the game. You can only tell them. They have to execute it. At Macks level he's getting some of the best recruits you can get. Very boiled down to the best skills. But they still do dumb things like get drunk or pull an all nighter before a game or get arrested or flunk a class.

I think Mack is still good at collecting the pieces (including asst coaches) but once he puts them on the board there is only so much he can control from the sidelines. If they fired him Id welcome him here.

Did Mac Brown get fired? Announce his retirement?
No, just wishful thinking by Texas fans. The good news is if he retired, they would still chase a big name coach like the article suggests they shouldn't and overlook these guys.

Walter might say this is wrong, just going by what I've heard from some, Mack is doing his impression of Bowden and JoePa.

If you mean that he's a media figurehead who makes sporadic and often counter-productive interventions in the management of his team, then you nailed it.

I think MB's situation is more like Lloyd Carr at UM or Phil Fulmer at UT; both guys won championships and did great things, but then started sliding for various reasons. Plus, i think mack is quite a bit younger than Bowden and JoePa were when they were fighting to stay on.

I think nearly everyone associated with Texas likes MB and what he's done. However, I think most feel that you can't get paid $5m/year--at a school like Texas with its resources--to produce middle of the pack results. Sure, you did great things, but you already got paid big bucks for those accomplishments. Yesterday is gone.

How quickly they forget the years between Royal/Akers and Brown.

If UT fans think 8-3 is bad, John Mackovic says hi.

This post confirms my suspicion, seeing as how Bohn said he's looking at a guy who's successful, with ample head coaching experience and who is currently a head coach at a university right now:WE'RE GETTING MACK BROWN!
