Kind of pissed me off. I'd like to kick him in the nads. But, we will just have to prove the asshole wrong. Until we do that, we don't have much of an argument. The interesting thing, to me, is why did he choose Colorado to be #1? I mean, there, really, are much worse programs than ours. Maybe he chose us because we have a history of being pretty good in the past and reside in one of the Big 4 conferences. I mean, we are obviously better that CSU, but they weren't mentioned.
This was bcs teams.
These articles are completely meaningless. Is someone trying to say that the author took a thourough look and analysis of every program in the country and has a solid grasp on the relative strenght of each program top to bottom.
If he did I can guarantee that he wouldn't be getting publish in Cigar Aflicted or whatever magazine this crap appeared in. Instead he would be in a serious sports publication or more likely be getting paid by an NFL team or other organization to provide insight into drafts or broadcast.
This has as much validity as the morons who put CU as #102 and CSWho as #79. If that were the case the people who put their money on this stuff wouldn't have the Buffs as 5.5 or 6 point favorites in Vegas against each other.
This is the same stuff as Kizla specializes in. Say something outrageous to piss people off and they all check it out meaning that you get read even if you don't know squat.
He does have a solid grasp on CFA and this isn't his regular gig (you can see his regular column in USA Today). He is a douchebag and an attention whore IMHO. It is an opinion piece so just win some games and make him wrong.
Here's another thing. We talk about our MNC and that's awesome, but recruits don't care about that unless it's something they can remember.
Minnesota has won 7 MNCs (only 1 in the modern era post-WWII) AND has much nicer facilities than we have right now and they are 33-54. Say what you will, but recruits don't care so much about a MNC in the 40s as much as they do just a few years before they were born.
And that accounts for something. But at some point if Embree doesn't win then it'll fall in deaf ears, if it hasn't already. There are many coaches out there that have been on championship teams of varying levels. A lot of the players getting recruited are coming from programs where they won some kind of title (divison, state, etc...). However, at some point you also become Al Bundy talking about 4 TDs in the state championship game. If Embree can pull this team out of the doghouse and into a bowl game this year it would be remarkable and I'm sure we'll do better in the years to come. If we don't go bowling I could also see us recruiting worse next year.
Given how awful we've been it's unfortunate to think that year 2 is going to matter so much, because while I believe coaches deserve more I don't know if it can be pulled off in this day and age; fanbases don't give their guys the kind of time that Mac had.
Best School Choice? So how many BSC eligible schools that haven't won a national championship would trade places with CU or any other team on that list just to be national champions? I'm thinking all of them. Nothing for CU to be ashamed of here. That asshat who wrote the column has no clue.
Well at least we play 2 of the other 10 worst! UCLA and Arizona State and at home! I guess we will see who the worst of the worst really is! Of course I am kidding, I think we may well surprise a few people this season and win 5 or 6. It is sad that 5 wins would be widely accepted but it is whatit is for the time being. Embree has us pointed in the right direction and I would encourage anyone who didn't see his post scrimmage comments in another thread to watch it. He was very informative and the news is good in my opinion.
I don't think 5 wins would be widely accepted. This year, an acceptable performance would be getting to a bowl game. Anything below that is unacceptable.
5 wins shouldn't be accepted it should be celebrated. CU is going to be favored 3 times (CSU, Sac. St. and ASU). 2 of those 3 games CU is going to be favored by less than a touchdown, the season win total O/U is 3.5 games. If they get to 5 wins CU played well and had to have some things break their way.

5 wins should not be celebrated, ever.
