Reading reports out of CSU camp, seems some general observations can be made:

1. They have not settled on a starting QB.
2. Their OL seems better suited to run blocking. With a good group of RBs, this presents a challenge.
3. They have potential in rushing the passer.

Keeping Connor Wood upright and winning first down on defense seem to be keys here. Uncertainty at QB and an untested WR group for CSU means third down conversions could be an issue for them, provided they are at least intermediate distance to gain.

Our youngish DL will be tested, as will Wood's decision making.

Also their AD thinks black people teach their 10 year olds to smoke weed.
 
Things we've learned this offseason:

CSU would have 3-4 players start for Alabama
They brought in some 0* JUCO CB with a listed 40 of 4.4. So covering PRich is no trouble
CSU "dominated" the game last year, despite winning by 5 points
CSU has 3 running backs better than Powell, one of which ran for 400 yards in 12 games at a JUCO
 
Heh.

I expect a physical game from the Rams. Last year, we folded. Can the sophomore DTs rise to the challenge this year?
 
If Wood starts off with a couple incompletions then we're in trouble. We need to dial up some plays to get him confidence early

You mean as opposed to say stubbornly running the pro-set with a QB who's only ever run the spread?

Throwing fades to Dustin Ebner?

I expect CSU to double PRich and put 8 in the box to force Wood to beat them. We need to get an early lead to take the pressure off Wood. I hope we get the ball first and set the pace from the get-go

If they put 8 in the box and double P-Rich, we will have at least 2 receivers wide open every play. That would force 8 players to watch the run, and 2 to cover p-rich. 10 of 11 on the D. If Connor couldn't beat that then we are screwed
 
I think this game is all about DD and McCullouch. They should have plenty of opportunities to make plays, including BIG plays, if Wood can get them the ball.

I'm more worried about the matchup in the trenches. It seems like we always get outmatched in the trenches when we play CSU. If the Lambs can force pressure on Wood, then I will be concerned. Woods historical problem has always been making bad decisions when he is pressured.

Too many unknowns for me to know WTF might happen. But a nearly complete stab is the dark...

1. Player stamina - Embree's teams were not prepared to go 4Q. This has been emphasized by Mac...we'll see the progress they've made. I remember the AZ game...was fairly close in the first half, then we were too out of shape to compete in the second and got blown out.

2. Defense - We gotta get a lot of stops and put them in 3rd and 6+. If not, they could grind out a lot of long drives, which doesn't bode well for us.

3. Offense - I hope the O is as good as promoted on creating quick passes and being up tempo, if so we could score 30-40. If we are good at high percentage throws, that will take pressure off Connor and the line and PRich is bound to take at least one short one all the way. If the Lambs get quick pressure on Connor and rattle him early, it's going to be a loooooooonnnnggg game.

4. Special teams - Could come down to a kickoff return for TD or FGs. Haven't heard much about ST, except we have a dedicated coach for them, so I'm guessing we'll be improved.

Getting psyched. Can't wait to be there!

"Which players at CU will make the NFL?"

A bunch of players including Nembot.

CSU fan (gasm)- He sucked blah blah blah. As a redshirt freshman. It takes more than size/athleticism.

CU fan- Well which CSU players make it.

CSU fan (gasm)- Lists off a bunch. Then says but it is hard to tell because they were only freshmen last year. But they have the size and speed necessary.

The CSU game

CSU's interior lines are entering their second season under McElwain while CU's are in their first season under HCMM. It would seem like an advantage for CSU but if CU has good coaching and the kids perform, we can still beat CSU.
 
With half decent coaching last year, we win the game. This year will be different from a coaching standpoint. We will struggle a bit because of it being the first game under MikeMac, but we do have better talent in our program, even as down as we have been. Time to see what he can do with the talent but I do expect to see the Buffs win by 10 or more. Pass the Kool Aid!
 
I've given up trying to predict how the CSU game will play out. It never goes as expected. Being the first game of the season makes it even less predictable. Then add in the new coaching staff factor and it becomes totally unpredictable.

The Coloradoan talks about CSU having a strong 1-2 punch at TE. I'm thinking this could be a key matchup for CU's defensive backs & LBs in the passing game. CSU also has given us fits with pass catching TEs at times.

EDIT: Take a look at CSU's game agianst SJSU last season: http://espn.go.com/ncf/boxscore?gameId=322590023

Cartwright had four catches for 57 yards and one TD while Gilmore had three catches for 26 yards.

SJSU didn't jump out to a large lead early in the game but they basically blew the game open in the fourth qtr so the final score doesn't appear to fit the story of the game.

If CU can control the CSU TEs, I think CU's chances of winning the game go up significantly.
