The Final 5

The Buffs finally got a much needed win tonight. It wasn't pretty, but was a crucial win that moved the Buffs from 9th to 6th in the standings. How do you think the Buffs do in the final five games before heading to KC?

Here's how I see it:
@KU - L
@ TT - L
Texas - L
@ ISU - W
Nebraska - W

ISU and TT are clearly the bottom two teams in the league at 1-9 and 3-7, respectively. It's a great opportunity to end the road woes and finish strong, but like everybody else the Cyclowns and Sandaggies are tough and competitive at home. TT seems to be slightly better than ISU at this point. It's going to be fun to have the Longhorns visit Boulder one final time as the best team in the conference/country. Obviously a win would change everything for CU, but Texas is unbelievable, they've impressed me much more than KU has. Of course we wrap up our Big XII experience with Nebraska coming to Boulder. I wouldn't want it any other way. The Corn worked us in Lincoln, and they aren't a good matchup for us. However just about everything went right for the Corn in that game, including the refs "letting them play", to put it mildly. In Boulder we should be able to play more of our game and end things with a win over a Nebraska team that will be in the NIT this year. This would put us at 18-13 (7-9). I really hope the Buffs can finish 8-8 in the conference, it would be quite an achievement, but it would take some consistency and toughness to win a couple road games. Finishing 5th or 6th would be great so we could get ISU or TT in KC, but 7-9 would likely put CU 7th or 8th.

Not enough to get into the dance but we'll get into the NIT.

Hate to even think about this scenario, but CSU could dance - beat New Mexico tonight to get to 17-7 (7-3, 3rd in MWC) Always is good for RPI to have teams you beat do well, but in this case it's just disgusting for a multitude of reasons

TTech is clearly the biggest loser program in the conference, and yet Iowa State continues to get wiped out even more. This is a certain win for us, though, and we'll close out on a win streak too.

Iowa State should be alright next year when they get their transfers in but yeah TT is the worst in the conference.

We won't go dancing. We have to upset either KU on the road or UT at home, neither of which I think this team can do.

upset of UT at home is more likely than KU for sure. Any given game anything can happen. You never know. We need to make sure we have a rowdy crowd for texas though.

You don't think going 8-8 in conference with 2 tourney wins would get us in?

Got to win at least 3. Unless we get 4, though, I'm afraid we'll have to get to the Big 12 tourney finals in order to get an NCAA bid.

let Tad throw his 40min of hell at them at altitude and we will see. Probably wont beat them but a "good" loss would still boost our RPI.

We played our A game against Kansas. They played their A game. At home, we lost by 4 points. And really, choked away the game instead of having them dominate us. There is no reason to think we are not capable of an upset against UT. Unlikely, yes. Possible. Definitely.

We definitely had many opportunities to win that game and let it slip away. If the crowd is their, we are on top of things, and we get a bounce or two our way.... would be a great Saturday afternoon.

3-2 nice...2-3 more likely

Question.....would it be better to play 1 game in the NCAA tournament or make a run of 2 or 3 games in the NIT, maybe even make it to NYC? Extended practice time...get guys like Mills, Sharpe and Roberson some more game experience, and have a game or 2 at home to increase revenue? Just a thought.

NCAA. Always. Not even close. It's better to get blown out in the opening round of the NCAAs than it is to win the NIT.

Without a doubt NCAA is better. Just ask last year's NIT runner-up...I think they would have liked to go dancing instead...

We're not going to beat Texas...sorry. They're the best team in the conference, and I think KU is overrated this year. Texas is good...maybe great. I like them a lot.

I say we win three games (@TT, @ISU, NU) the rest of the year, and we win one tournament game. That'll get us on the NIT bubble. If we win two to three games, NIT lock. If we make it to the Big 12 championship, we're still not making the NCAA. We have to beat KU or Texas in order to make, and I don't see either happening.

Agreed, you always want to play on center stage. But lets not get depressed on a NIT bid. Program wise, the exposure of the NCAA is priceless, but on a personal side, I would like to go to 2 home games then a trip to NYC. A good NIT run would also help with next year (more practice, confidence, etc.) so lets not get a NCAA or nothing mentality (aka Pullen)

I said this before, but this team has players on it that can get hot and allow us to beat anyone on a given day. The will be pumped to play Texas at home, so if their shots are going down there is a good shot at beating them. Is it likely, no, but it is definatly possible.

We need to get more quality wins, which means we need to knock of either KU or UT to make the NCAA tourney.

Agreed. Kansas is likely going to be #1 this saturday when we play them, how cool would it be to have CU knock them off at Phog, then host UT (would be #1 after a KU loss) and beat them at Coors? I know I am dreaming, but that would likley be the only way to secure a NCAA bid

I was just thinking about that possibility. What are the chances that one team knocks off two #1's in the span of a week. Has it been done before? Would be an amazing event for the program. Even a win in Lawrence would set up two #1 matchups for CU. Hello ESPN exposure. Its a dream but its possible. The KU game came down to us just needing a couple things to bounce our way. Maybe we can silence that rock chalk chant and bring some momentum in to our big game against Texas.

I dont believe CU has EVER knocked off a #1.

It would be impossible because they only release rankings once per week. Texas would still be #2, even though everyone would know they were on their way to #1.

We've got those games on consecutive Saturdays, though, and the rankings come out on Mondays. We play at Texas Tech in between, but we would have a shot at 2 #1s over 8 days if we took out Kansas.

(Double check that, but I think I'm right.)

I will NOT double check that. That sounds like work.

We play kansas on a saturday the 19th. The new rankings would be released two days after on monday the 21st and UT would be #1. Then we play TT on wednesday the 23rd and the longhorns the next saturday the 26th. They would still be #1... unless Ohio State leapfrogs back to #1, where they should probably still be

If CU beats Kansas Saturday, unless Texas loses they could be number 1 the next week when we play them...we can beat two #1's in a row
