The hat might be available.....

Footballscoop.com says he's coaching for his job the next two weeks, and he's getting a behemoth buyout from LSU if they part ways ($15m). I get what Rick said last week about MM coming back next year, but is the hat enough of an upgrade over what we have to at least see if he'd take this job if it was available?

Is the hat Les Miles? BCS already guaranteed he'd be coach like 7 years ago.

I'd be afraid that if he came here he wouldn't have the energy or motivation to put in the needed effort. Kind of the "Chuck Fairbanks Syndrome." I mean, I have no reason to believe that, just a gut feeling.

You might be due for a colonoscopy.

I'm with DBT. If Les Miles came around here asking for a job, I'd be like "no deal sir, we don't like you fancy big name coaches around these parts. We like to stick with head coaches with non-bcs experience."

before googling it, I would've thought "the hat" would refer to Fedora, not Miles.

Kinda tough predicament - A great coach with ties to Colorado, BIG time experience at the national level, available?? what to do? especially if CU really has a shot at him.

I like coach Mac, but an upgrade is an upgrade.
You don't keep driving a Taurus because it's nice if you can get a Ferrari on the cheap.

Bad analogy, I know...

Is it any secret that after John Chavis went to Texas A and M LSU struggled (relatively speaking)? In 2008 LSU went 8-5, the year between Bo Pelini (no matter how much I dislike the guy he was a very good DC) and John Chavis, and people were talking about firing Les then as well. Les is disguised as a good coach as long as he has someone running his defense because his offense has never been DOMINANT. If you watch LSU enough you will see that Les makes questionable decisions regularly, his teams bail him out at times.

Not a question at you directly, just a response to thread. Are there any CU fans who think Les Miles would not be an upgrade over current staff?

Miles put up really good results at Oklahoma State and won a NC at LSU plus a lot of wins at LSU. I don't like the idea assigning all blame for the bad and zero credit for good. He is a weird dude, but you cannot discount sustained bottom line results. It can't all be smoke and mirrors for that long of a time frame.

great coach. sometimes, he lets his passion get in the way and that leads to some decision-making that allows others to question his moves.

he's older. who knows if he wants a rebuild job, although we are far less of a rebuild than we were just a couple years ago. he was very good at okie state, too.

recruiting isn't apples to apples of course--- but, i believe he'd put a staff together who could bring in athletes.

it is a pipe dream, but i like it.

i'd like it more if we win our last 2 and start a true resurgence.

I'd be ok with a coach who was a bit goofy but hired really great assistants.

Definitely an upgrade. His winning track record speaks for itself. I would take him in a heart beat. With his name recruiting turns around immediately. He would have us in the top 3-4 classes in the PAC12 every year. I would love to see him recruiting our large class next year!

If the buyout is really $15M i cannot see anything happening. And if you actually got $15M for not working, why would you work? He's not a young man.

If I had $15M in the bank the last thing i would be doing is flying and driving all over creation to suck up to 17 year old punks. No freaking way.

You are a beat down fan.

I've heard that there is plenty of "smoke" around Miles coming to CU. Well, at least there are a few people spending too much time smoking pot and they think this is going to happen.
