In running through wikipedia to look up some Buffalo history we noticed a number of our our greatest players have either no wikipedia entry at all, or one that is so poor that it might as well not be there. As part our attempt to grow overall knowledge of the CU program, support the team and have a presence befitting of our history on the internet we would like to encourage all of you to help all of us upgrade these wiki entries. Rep from all us to any of the members who complete or help complete any article.

First challenge will be Deon Figures who's article is less than flattering:

Holy crap, that sounds as if it was written by a nitwit with a 4th grade education.

"I don't like Deon. He made a bad play. I won't be his friend."

Anyway, the format should be:
Short intro to where he is from and where he played. Maybe his rating coming out of HS and his position.

Bitter Pitt fan I suppose. Back then like half the Pitt team was Buffs, so they should be a little more grateful.

Graduated from Junipero Serra High School in Gardena Ca in 1988

Committed to Colorado
played 10 games his freshman season
academic suspension for the year in 1989
suspended for first game of 1990 - instrumental in the 1990 national championship run
intercepted UW QB Mark Brunell with 1 minute to go to secure a 20-14 victory in Boulder, Buffs improve to 3-1-1. Figures, who finished with six tackles and two interceptions, was named Colorado's player of the week
In the national championship game vs Notre Dame, CU was up 10-9 when a clipping call put the Irish on their own 22. 5 plays later DF intercepted Rick Mirer to secure the win and the title.
In 1992, Deon Figures of Colorado, from Compton and Serra High, won the Jim Thorpe Award as the best college defensive back

A few things to remember about the 1991 Colorado team:
• The Buffs finished 8-3-1 that year, including a 6-0-1 record
in the Big Eight, tying with Nebraska for their third straight league
title. Those Buffs also spent most of the season in the top 20, and finished ranked 20th in the nation.
While the Buffs did lose three games that year, the total

margin of defeat in those games was 14 points: a loss by two to Baylor, seven to Stanford and five to Alabama in the Blockbuster Bowl

Deon Figures
6-1, 195 pounds
1988-92

Figures had 12 career interceptions and 27 passes broken up. Remarkably, he intercepted two passes in four different games. Among the most memorable were his end-of-the-game pick against Notre Dame in the 1991 Orange Bowl, which helped seal Colorado’s 10-9 victory and national title. Earlier that season, Figures’ pick with under a minute to play against Washington helped preserve another win. By the end of his senior season in 1992, opposing offensive coordinators had seen enough of the talented Colorado defensive back, and Thorpe Trophy voters had seen enough to give Figures the hardware. The Compton, Calif. native was also a consensus All-American first-team pick and was named Big Eight Defensive Player of the Year. Figures went on to play six years in The League where he had nine interceptions.

Political Impact

Politically, National Signing Day has an effect in that head coaches are lobbying, in a way, for the athletes to commit to them and their programs. It is also very political in terms of programs and coaches competing against one another for the athletes commitment. Some coaches will do whatever it takes to get an athlete to commit, including unethical and illegal tactics. The University of Colorado went under the spotlight a few years ago when the NCAA caught them practicing a number of recruiting violations. As a result, the university self-imposed a number of new recruiting standards, which included banning the use of player hosts and limiting weekend stays by recruits to one night (the NCAA allows two).[1].

I think this could be revamped in a way that does not slam us. We are far from the only school who has had issues and this doesn't even belong in a thread about signing day.

It should definitely be revamped. That self-imposed penalty is no longer in place and hasn't been for a while. But I think some of the broadcast teams and print journalists do their research on wiki, because I heard our recruiting restriction mentioned as a negative about the CU coaching job several times last fall when they were discussing our head coach opening.

It's ridiculous to highlight specific teams, obviously there was a grudge here. The reference for CU infractions isn't even a valid link.
 
If anyone has some insight into Deon Figures' high school career, let me know. There's little info googling it. He went to Junipero Serra in Gardena but there's also reference to Skyline HS in Oakland

I looked up Michigan's Brady Hoke for comparison. There is a ton more stuff in there with his full coaching career. It's the standard wiki category format that should be followed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brady_Hoke

can't access Absinthe's post/article FYI. I stole all of nik's info and put it up on embree's profile. Looks better, or at least, now he has had a career. Feel free to have someone else source it, I do that enough for work as it is :lol:

Through his high school and college careers, Smith battled many issues that he had with the law. He failed three drug tests, and later admitted to abusing codeine. we really need to have an adopt a buff program. We make a standard wikipedia template and for the player(s) that you adopted, you can fill out the template and post it to wikipedia (or have someone else do it for you). We can start with the current roster and then work our way backwards to all the buff players that made it in the NFL.

we absolutely need to get started on this. Take a peek at this entry from the Michigan TB. We need something like this for all the starters.

Man, that makes me really mad that that is in there about him and the girl. Why the **** would that be in the article in the first place, and why in the legal issues section. I don't believe that is illegal yet.

Man. That seriously pisses me off.
 
During the 2007 season, Jimmy Smith firmly established himself as a contributor, a special teams star, and as part of the secondary depth. By far the biggest play of his 2007 season came against the Huskers, with momentum heading NU's way and the Buffs trailing by 11 Smith picked off a Joe Ganz pass and took it 31 yards to the house sparking a 34-0 run and swinging the game back in CU's favor in what would eventually turn out to be a 65-51 CU win.
