The OL's inexperience is no excuse with 2 years in the system

UCLA is starting one 5th year senior surrounded by two redshirt frosh and one true frosh (and one guy back from mormon mission)... all with a new OL coach. They are averaging over 300 yards rushing per game, and that includes the most yards put on nebraska since the 70's.

Talent. Talent. Talent. Embree and Marshall's evaluation and coaching of OL... now officially nakedly open for supreme dissing.

And let's not forget this last weekend they went up against the hucksters vaunted black skirts defense. Hearing Powell repeatedly battle his way out of the backfield says it all about the current state of our Offensive line - it is just that, Offensive.

this same recipe goes on all over the country - yet all we hear in CU country is excuses why it's not

I quote you the almighty Buffnik. Spot on assessment of our team (and it especially rings true with OL)

As we've seen for years now, there's a lot of fake tough with the CU football program. What I mean by "fake tough" is a group of guys that talk big and pose as bad asses because they look the part and think the opposition will back down from them... because they'd do the same if confronted by a larger, stronger and more athletically gifted opponent. Then, when they realize that no one's backing down and they're in for a real fight they don't know how to deal with it and get ****ing whipped.

We have an experienced OL. And the 2 most key positions are C and LT where we have the most experience. Any "inexperience" excuse is bunk.

What I've noticed about their evaluation is they can recruit speed and talent (all things considered) but start the worst of the bunch. In what universe is Jones better than Powell or McCullough better than Thomas? They seem to pick kids who they think are "smart" or "well-rounded", but not the best athletes. We need athletes in there...let them play. Sure, they'll make mistakes but good ones will make way more plays than mistakes.

Have to say I'm impressed with UCLA. I didn't think much of the Mora hire, but he seems to have put a good staff together and they're off to a great start. Hard to really say how it'll go after only two games, but good early returns. Could be another Carroll (i.e. bad NFL coach that ends up being a really good college one). The Pac-12 South is suddenly looking more dangerous, particularly if Rich Rod can turn Zona into another WVU.

As for the CU O-line, I'm not aware of anyone using inexperience as an excuse. Inexperience in the secondary and D-line are legit excuses, but O-line has easily been the biggest disappointment thus far. I fully expected the O-line to dominate against CSU and Sac State. Will we see Nembot against Fresno State?

Only if the coaches want to give some validity to the inexperience excuse.

That said, I think there's a decent argument to try Lewis at RT and shift Harris to LG. It may cause a ton of growing pains on the right side, but I'd rather have a dominating left side and trouble on the right than an entire line that's mediocre.
