I haven't seen this tabled for discussion yet on the board (sorry if I missed it somewhere else) and I thought it might be worth some time to type up.
Recently Ralph Nadar took a position on scholarships and recruiting college athletes -http://blogs.forbes.com/bobcook/2011/03/25/ralph-nader-wants-to-kill-youth-sports-as-we-know-them/
http://www.sportsgrid.com/ncaa-football/ralph-nader-eliminate-athletic-scholarships/
Most times I take words like this with a grain of salt but to mention but a few, with....USC, LSU, Georgia, UConn and even a secondary violation by our new staff all hanging in various stages has me contemplating the ills of recruiting and scholarships.
Then I think of this -
http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsport...ays-lyles-asked-for-80k-for-patrick-peterson/
http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoo...ory-on-recruiting-controversy-i-feel-targeted
and it sure seems like there is a lot of fishy stuff going on.
So here's the questions: Does the scholarship and recruiting process need to be fixed?? Can it?? And if so how to?
As a whole I think the process is a mess, but to consider something like Nader talks about just might ruin college sports. Not that I think this will really happen but it would sure be great to figure out a way to cut down on the cheats.
Having said all this, personally I think there is way too much money involved to ever make meaningful and productive change. Your thoughts??
