This year Colorado has been nothing less than impressive. Our offense has been fast and potent, leaving them ranked 11th in the nation in offense efficiency leading up to the game this weekend at USC. We lost our leader, Sefo Liufau, during the Michigan game, but haven't skipped a beat since with Steven Montez at the helm. The bundance or receivers we have at our disposal has only help make our quarterbacks better week-to-week. If it's not Fields one week it's Ross, and if it's not Ross than it's Bobo. This high tempo well oiled machine wouldn't be worth mentioning at all if we didn't give our O-Line setting some credit. Last year, they struggled to find consistency and togetherness. But this year, they look like a completely different animal. And that has opened up our run game. We don't stick to one running back, but tactically use a group effort to keep the defense honest. Overall, this offense is something we haven't been fortunate to have in recent years.
This brings me to the other side of the ball. Another year, another group that could only keep us close in games. Wrong! This group has some of the most talented players in the PAC-12 and quite possibly the nation. They are ranked 12th in the nation in defensive efficiency heading into this weekend. The team is led by Senior Nickelback/Corner Chidobe Awuzie. He is the life blood of the defense and keeps them running at a high level. Some are saying he could sneak into the First Round of this upcoming NFL Draft. He is complimented in the secondary by Tedric Thompson, Ahkello Witherspoon and Afolabi Laguda. Ryan Moller has played solid as well as the fill-in man but has since been asked to step-in at outside linebacker after McCartney went down with a season ending injury. Our linebacker core has been be stout and unforgiving. They are the glue that holds the team together. Rick Gamboa had a great pick-6 this past weekend that was provided by our defensive front. We can't forget about the men in the trenches. They have been playing lights out and allow our secondary and linebacker corp to have extra time to make plays. Its a cohesive group that had another year to grow together.
It's been an exciting year so far for the Buffaloes and we can only hope that there are more good times to follow!
But wait, how could I possibly forget about the man that this entire post is titled about. Josh Tupou. He is absolutely without a doubt the man that is helping all of this happen. He has endured so much throughout his career at CU going through losing season after losing season, and not to mention his year long suspension. He has the hardest job on the team. The man that has to fill the hole in the trenches and really be the tip of the spear. He's a bruiser of a human, standing 6'3 240lbs. He needed to be mentioned more than anyone because of the importance of having him this year. It's as if his suspension last year was meant to be. What if, he was eligible to play in 2015 and we still ended up with a losing season? Our team, wouldn't have him now and we might not be #21 in the nation after week 5. I'm not saying he won these games by himself, but who knows, maybe he is truly that last puzzle piece to this amazing run so far? I'm inclined to think so. I couldn't imagine not having him on our roster this year and am so thankful he's back!
Let's keep the good times rolling in Boulder, Colorado! GO BUFFS!
