The waiting game ...

... really sucks. There once was a time that if CU had an opening, we'd be somewhere at the top of the hiring food chain. But as it stands now, we have to wait until Auburn, Arkansas, Cal, Tennessee, Purdue, BC (!) and NC State (!!) make their moves and then we'll get whoever didn't take one of those jobs.

From that perspective, with so many jobs out there, is this like the worst time we could have fired him? I almost think that they should have kept Embree one more year, just to avoid this logjam.

Or am I way off? This seems like a lot of open BCS conference jobs, but maybe no more than usual?

I don't think it's any more than usual. There will always be schools looking for coaches - and some of them will have more money, some will have similar or better winning traditions, many will have less.
 
With more and more teams have $$$ due to TV contracts this is going to be the new norm.
 
WAY OFF! CU is waiting for the end of the season. The Buffs know where they stand with most candidates. I surmise they been at this for awhile.

The SEC boys play in a different sandbox, so CU really doesn't care what they do. Each of the other schools mentioned has different needs, based on their recent past and their recruiting areas. BC is regional and a minor player overall. While Purdue is usually looking for someone with direct ties to their program---they seem really "incestuous", if you get my meaning---they're "engineers" and weird! NCSU? Who cares? Again, pretty regional.
 
Fellow Seattleite here and yes you are off. No way could we let that staff stay in place one minute longer than they did. Judging by Embree's reaction after he was fired tells me all I need to know about how he acted behind closed doors too. The words "In over his head" clearly ring true. His sideline pouting and antics, along with his horrific gameday decisions fit perfectly with his blaming everyone and everything but himself for being fired. Now was the time to cut ties. We will get someone that hopefully we are all excited about soon. I can't wait either, this waiting game does suck. Go Buffs!
 
Don't think this is any more crazier than the norm.....that being stated, if we start seeing all our hopefuls be snatched up before CU or turning down CU, I'm going to 100% have to start questioning Bohn again, as a good AD would know prior to the firing of the last guy how much interest there was or was not from the candidates he wanted to hire next.
 
The waiting game totally sucks. My productivity and free time is down big time. With that said, I think Colorado is fine as a destination job. Mid to upper tier salary pool, likely big facility improvement commitment, and Flagship school in a state with no other BCS programs. I think after the 3 SEC schools, and Cal (due to new facilities, and good talent), Colorado is basically next in line at that point.
 
Agree. The way Embo handled himself after being dismissed proves all the more that he was not the guy. Woody P summed it well in his piece today here

Really disagree that we have to wait to get the scraps. There was a great link in one of the forums about rating the open coaching positions and CU is a 7/10 according to them.... which puts it as one of the top 5 jobs available this year. It is in one of the 4 BCS level leagues, money will be there and it is in Colorado for god's sake. They are not scrapping for NC state leftovers at all. Not even in the same hiring pool as purdue, ncsu and BC.
 
There was time when the job was much more attractive than it is now. We can thank Benson, DiStephano and Bohn for that. They even admitted that under their watch the brand deteriorated.

Sadly, the CU job is now on par with a Purdue and NC State.

Oh, I think the Purdue job would be more attractive to the majority of coaches. They have a solid history and don't face a total rebuild.

Looks like Butch Jones is going there.

CU with true commitment from higher ups (if true) is a pretty darn good job.
