That was so great. The outstanding photos, the post game interviews...wow. Loved it. Love this team and how unified they are. You can see and feel it on how they talk about each other. It could be for show, but it doesn’t feel like it.
And Montez. Wow. Went from being a bit of a worry because of my perception that his frat meant more than the team (and wondered if the team felt the same way since he wasn’t voted a Captain) to a player I think is equal in leadership to Sefo and Lindsey. I was completely wrong. Says all the right things, credits the team around him, and doesn’t overpromise anything. Just tells it how it is. Team will enjoy it and get to work because each win doesn’t complete what they want.
I know we all worry about Mac leaving, and last year that was a possibility. I think a year like this, and a team that’s unified like this will do a lot to help make a good case for Mac to stay and maybe finish his career here. Years like this make recruiting easier. Years like this mean a better pool of replacements if coaches leave. And years like this show that if you go undefeated, you will be in the playoffs, no matter if you are SEC, ACC, Big 10, Big 12 or PAC 12.
And wow to DC. We all wondered if given free reign if he would go all TT pass happy. And he has the QB and WR’s to do so. Yet he is building and using a running attack like we have not seen around these parts for many, many years. He will be a head coach someday. And I think people in 20 years will talk about Mac’s coaching tree. I ca only hope that if Mac stays, and DC gets a good HC job offer, that we give DC a good raise and maybe an Assistant HC title to stay until Mac leaves/retires.
It’s funny how we went from the Hawk/JE disaster, to Foodcart ditching us in a humiliating fashion, to hiring Mac and being a bit of a “Who?” situation, to having the CU Buffs back relevant and getting better from week to week. Now we have the next two weeks of tough road games, and if we win on Saturday, Washington goes from what seemed a sure loss to a possibility.
Maybe someone thinks we can get a better coach if Mac leaves. I think Mac stays with deadweight too long out of loyalty, but if you are a coach looking for a job or step up as a coach, and Mac comes calling, that’s a positive thing to say yes to.
I’m in Florida on vacation and positivity giddy with the Buffs right now. Well done team. Well done. Now use this momentum to go get more top shelf OL, DL and other great players.
