With nothing better to do on a Fri night I finally got around to watching last week's game (incredibly sad - I know). Not that any of the following is a revelation but: 1) Our interior O-line is crazy bad. They don't know who to block. I don't think Lewis is a guard. I saw Handler get rag dolled more than once -see #2, 2) Our whole team is too skinny. The frosh i get, but I'm afraid that the rest may be over-trained or that too much team size has been sacrificed in the pursuit of team speed. Is anybody else somewhat concerned that our strength coach held the same position for the worst team in NFL history?, 3)Webb is shell-shocked from playing behind both ours and Kansas' lines. I thought he could blossom behind a decent line, but he has gone the way of David Carr in the NFL... 4) Our playbook is too big. I think our coaching staff may be asking too much of the players between the plays and the training regimen. There's a reason why rookies struggle in the NFL, let alone a bunch of true frosh and a transfer QB that showed up late. 5) Our midget safeties are horrible. Losing Polk was a killer (c'mon we haved to be cursed -our fastest / most legit players on O & D get hurt??!). I think either Orms and Smith would be ok at nickle, but the combo at S is brutal. Bell needs to take over for at least one. 6) G. Brown gambles too much trying to overload one side of the formation. I think we would do much better running a simple cover 2 / balanced scheme. Overall, I think most of this can be addressed by Embree and 80% of his staff - but maybe not all this season (ie O-line). Recruiting is and aways will be the key. I disagree with those disappointed with this staffs' ability to recruit - especially those dissing this years' class. Sefo Lifau will be the pivot point - we only will have to wait a couple of seasons....
